Chapter 24
Facing matters concerning her sister, Janet Johnson felt a bit more confident.
Fortunately, gathering evidence wasn’t too difficult now.
Plus, with Roger Hernandez’s help.
Everything progressed smoothly.
That day, stepping out from the girl’s home.
Janet collided head–on with a man whose face was dark with malice.
The man blocked Janet’s path, grinding his molars.
He then pulled out cash and threw it insultingly at Janet’s face. “Name your price.”
“Miss, I don’t recall any grudge between us. Why must you oppose me?”
“That woman and I just knew each other. We were dating–I pursued her. Everyone in this town knows it.”
Expressionless, Janet tore the cash to shreds. Watching the man’s panic, she found it darkly amusing.
“Scared now?
What about when you committed those acts?”
“If your conscience were truly clear, why fear my involvement?”

“I’m a lawyer, not police. I can’t convict you directly.”
The man cracked under Janet’s words, his face twisting with rage.
He suddenly brandished a sharp fruit knife toward her.
“Fine.
You brought this on yourself.

“Since you insist on crossing me, don’t blame me for what comes next.”
Seeing the man’s bloodshot eyes, Janet felt genuine fear.

She’d already dialed her emergency contact.
But still no response.
Janet had hoped to stall for time.
Yet the man lunged forward without warning.
Janet fought back desperately.

She’d learned some self–defense moves from Roger.
But her skills remained rudimentary.
Compounded by their physical disparity.
Janet was quickly pinned to the ground.
Staring at the tip of the blade inches from her face.
She trembled uncontrollably with terror.
The man chose that moment to laugh with cruel delight.
He traced the knife mockingly near Janet’s cheek.

“Not bad, this pretty face of yours.”
“Strip. Now. Do it facing me, and I’ll let you go.”
“Otherwise… say goodbye to that delicate skin.”
Nausea churned in Janet’s stomach.
She spat out each word with icy clarity:
“You’re dreaming.”
The man smirked coldly. “Your choice.”

Watching his hand rise for the strike, Janet closed her eyes in despair.
But the expected pain never came:
Instead, warm droplets splattered her face.
Janet’s eyes flew open in disbelief.
Justin Nelson–unseen for days–stood there, deathly pale, gripping the blade barehanded.
He seemed oblivious to the blood.
Eyes cold as ice, pitch–black, locked onto the attacker.
The man recoiled under that gaze, snarling, “Where did this bum come from? Get lost! This isn’t your business!”
Though noticeably thinner now.
Justin easily overpowered him.
He kicked the man off Janet.

Face thunderous, Justin strode over and stomped on the man scrambling to rise.
The man yelped as the stomp landed, his eyes fixed on Justin with fear and dread.
“You…you want money? I can give you some.”
‘Just spare me.
