Chapter 10 Farewell
Once Jayden was released, he headed straight for Elisa’s place.
That day, the apartment echoed with a woman’s sobs and desperate apologies.
Neighbors thought about stepping in, but they backed off after Jayden barked at them coldly.
After that, Elisa’s days were filled with misery as Jayden frequently hit her.
I thought that would be the life they’d lead from then on. But unexpectedly, Nicole managed to slip out of the mental hospital.
As soon as she saw Jayden, she collapsed, crying for help.
She didn’t know he wasn’t her biological father.
While drooling, she shakily used a pen to write down the abuse she’d suffered in the mental hospital.
After reading it, Jayden kicked her aside.
“You wicked brat! If not for you, I wouldn’t have lost my child or ended up like this!
“Why didn’t you just let those men destroy you? Why are you still alive?”
Stunned, Nicole held up the paper to question him.
“Dad, how could you say that? I’m your daughter.”
“No, you’re not! You’re Elisa’s and her lover’s kid!
“You ended up like this because of your real father. You had it coming!”
Then, he dragged her into the bedroom.
Her screams lasted the whole night as she cried for Elisa to save her.
But Elisa only wanted someone to share her pain.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Nicole came out trembling.
When she saw Elisa had made breakfast, she knocked it to the floor and shot Elisa a hateful glare.
A second later, Nicole grabbed a sharp piece and slashed toward Elisa’s neck.
When Jayden woke up, the floor was soaked in blood.
Nicole sat on a chair, holding the sharp piece and staring at him with a drool.
Horrified, he fled the apartment.
They had completely turned against each other.
Thankfully, someone nearby called the police, and both were taken into custody.
Just as the officers were about to take Jayden away, I showed up with a child in my arms.
On the same afternoon that he signed the divorce papers, I went to the orphanage and adopted a girl.
I named her Naomi Schultz.
I adopted her to keep the promise I’d once made to my parents.
This time, I wouldn’t raise a child without boundaries.
I’d teach Naomi to respect others when she was little, to practice patience and self–love as she grew, and one day, how to succeed in the business world.
I’d give her all the love I had left.
When Jayden saw her, he laughed desperately.
“I know how much you love kids, but I still brought her and hurt you. I’m a jerk.
“Wynter, I’ve failed you in this life.”
I didn’t accept his apology.
What happened couldn’t be undone, but time would slowly fade the pain.
I held Naomi close and stared ahead, never looking back at him.
I would get better in the future, while he was bound to remain in prison.
There was a long path ahead of us, but we would never meet again.
