Chapter 8 The Truth
Once the appointment was confirmed, I arrived at the police station with the paternity results and divorce papers in hand.
When Jayden saw me, the sadness on his face vanished right away.
He quickly tried to explain, “Elisa gave me the drug. She said it would only take away speech and had no side effects. You have to trust me.”
“But your daughter has become an idiot now. She hides under the covers all day and avoids everyone.”
Jayden’s face went pale. He jumped up, clearly shaken.
To make him despair slowly, I calmly showed him a video of Nicole in the hospital.
After she was taken to the hospital that day, the doctors ran a full set of tests. All the results were normal.
Still, her behavior showed clear signs of mental issues.
Because of that, the doctor recommended that she be admitted to a mental hospital for further evaluation.
That news pushed Nicole over the edge.
With shaking hands, she picked up a pen and wrote a few words.
“Wynter hurt me!”
The doctor immediately called the police after reading it.
However, the police said she had made and drunk the coffee on her own

No one else was involved.
Once the doctor realized Nicole had caused it herself, he arranged for her to be admitted to a mental hospital.
Right then, Elisa arrived in a hurry.
Nicole stared at Elisa with hope, thinking Elisa had come with a cure.
But the drug was semi–finished and had no antidote. To keep Nicole from exposing who created the drug, Elisa agreed to have her committed.
Before Nicole was taken away, Elisa fell to her knees, crying.
When Jayden heard that, his eyes widened, and the veins in his neck stood out as he shouted, “She lied!
“She promised the drug wouldn’t cause harm and had an antidote! She actually harmed my daughter!
“Wynter, I messed up. I only brought Nicole into our lives because I thought you couldn’t have kids.
“Elisa said if I let her see Nicole once a week, she wouldn’t tell you the truth. That was why I kept doing the wrong thing.
“Please help Nicole. The mental hospital is terrible. Nicole can’t handle being there!”
Jayden cried as he spoke.
He had spent years building his reputation in the business world, forgetting how it felt to cry.
I never thought I’d see him weep, begging me for Nicole.
I sneered and slid the paternity results toward him.
