Chapter 17
I showed a self mocking smile.[]
During my absence, Julian had lost his personal “maid” and naturally couldn’t maintain his usual appearance.]
Perhaps I’d been staring at him too long.[]
Gideon strode forward and shielded me behind him, his tone ice–cold as he
Julian’s gaze fell on the tips of my hair.[]
Julian. “This is my home. You should leave, brother.“[]
He seemed unable to fully process the situation before him. After a long time, his
eyes slowly shifted to Gideon’s face.
Soon, he noticed the glaring hickeys on Gideon’s neck.
More than one.[]
It was obvious how wildly we’d been playing over the past ten days.[]
The couple’s tracking app had switched locations every three or four hours.
Every night, I’d stayed at different hotels.
Julian had used every resource available and quickly obtained information about my hotel stays–suite specifications and details about my companion.[]
The name “Gideon” lit up like a warning flare.
Julian barely remembered this cousin.[]
They weren’t close–he only appeared occasionally during holidays.[]
Even so, family elders would comment on how similar they looked.[]
In fact, aside from similar faces, their temperaments were completely different, making them easy to distinguish.]
The most brutal part for Julian?
This London apartment–I’d purchased it after consulting Julian’s opinion.[]
Now it was the home where Gideon and I spent our nights.]
Julian’s eyelid twitched.]
He didn’t look at Gideon, only stared at me hiding behind him.]
“Diana, come home.“[]
He was always like this.]
I smiled batterly
I used to accept this treatment without pride or self–respect.[]
In reality, Julian was a high–functioning autistic individual.[]
During history lectures, he could speak eloquently, and when discussing history with Emma, his speech was rapid.[]
But when it came to communicating with me, Julian always used only short two or three word substitutions.]
Forting me to actively guess his meaning–like a servant predicting their master’s needs.]
Especially now.
Chapter 17
I finally understood how cheap I’d been before.[]
Julian actually believed that simply asking me to come home was enough to make me grateful, compliant, and ready to resume the role of unpaid caregiver.[]
This thought made me laugh–1 laughed out loud.[]
Gideon glanced at me worriedly.[]
I patted his hand reassuringly, intimately interlacing our fingers before looking up at Julian.[]
“Julian, you should see clearly now, shouldn’t you?“]
I raised my hand.
On my ring finger was the ring Gideon had given me two days ago.[]
The diamond was beautifully cut with dazzling fire.[]
Unlike the previous silver ring bound with string, dull and ridiculous.[]
Julian’s jaw tightened.[]
He gripped the wedding ring I’d thrown away in his palm.[]
Though it was an extremely smooth, simple design, when he clenched it tightly, it still caused:
sharp pain.
n.]
“Come home. I can forgive you.“]]
Julian said stiffly.]
I couldn’t help but laugh coldly. The past seven years had been nothing but a nightmare disguised as
beautiful dream.
“Julian, in your heart, am I just a dog you keep leashed beside you? One that has to stay whether you feed it or not, unable to go anywhere?“[]
Julian frowned.
He hated crude analogies.
I caught the disgust on his face and mocked, “What? Two sentences and you’re disgusted? Then why weren’t you disgusted when you were sleeping with Emma?“[]
Before Julian could react, I walked straight to the living room, plugged a USB drive into the computer, and projected it directly onto the TV.
Instantly, the screen blazed to life.
The study from the surveillance camera’s perspective reflected in Julian’s eyes.[]
