Chapter 5
After a pause, Eliza continued, “I found a used condom that Edward had thrown away.”
I could imagine what happened next.
I was stunned, feeling both shocked and disgusted.
I never expected that Eliza would resort to such extreme measures to get pregnant just to marry a wealthy man.
Eliza shouted desperately, “If I didn’t do this, how could he ever notice me? Only by carrying his child would I have a chance to get close to him. I just love him too much and don’t want to lose him.”
She gripped my hand tightly, “Sophie, I didn’t do anything wrong, did I? He’ll want me, won’t he?”
Fighting back my nausea, I pulled my hand away from hers, “What’s wrong with pursuing your own happiness? Besides, Edward has been with many women–he can’t possibly remember every single one. Since you’re carrying his child, you have a huge advantage. You are the female lead, after all.”
Suddenly understanding something, Eliza confidently lifted her dress and limped off to find Edward.
I asked a server for some juice and settled in to watch the show.

However, before Eliza could take the stage, another girl had already approached.
Her face flushed red as she presented Edward with a piece of fine jade, “Edward, I carved this myself. I hope you’ll like it.”
Edward accepted it expressionlessly, then violently smashed the jade to the ground, “My sister just died not long ago, and you’re giving me jade? What’s the meaning of this?”
A girl beside me whispered, “Edward’s sister was named Jade Paterson. She died in a fire before Christmas, so he’s very sensitive about the word ‘jade.‘ She just crossed his line.”
I lowered my head slightly and adjusted my collar to cover the burn scars on my chest.
The girl turned pale with terror, crying and pleading, “Mr. Paterson, I’m sorry, I didn’t know about this. Please forgive me, I’ll choose a different gift for you.”
Edward smiled slightly, “You want me to forgive you? That’s simple enough.”
In front of everyone, he grabbed the girl’s chin and began forcing the jade fragments into her mouth.
She struggled desperately as blood trickled down from the corners of her mouth, staining her white dress red.

After stuffing all the fragments into her mouth, Edward dusted off his hands and said with disgust, “Drag her away and deal with her.”
Eliza said smugly, “She deserved it! After all, she was the one who tried to seduce Edward with that jade.”
I noticed that many of the girls harbored hostility toward that girl, believing she deserved such treatment for crossing Edward’s boundaries.
I couldn’t help but feel pity for them.
Eliza shyly approached Edward and handed him the prenatal report, “Edward, she was so thoughtless. Please don’t let her upset you. This is my gift to you–I hope you’ll like it.”
Edward glanced at her, a barely perceptible flash of disgust crossing his eyes, but he still accepted the report.
At this moment, quite a few girls were whispering among themselves, waiting to mock Eliza.
One girl said, “She’s so fat and ugly, yet she dares to confess to Edward. She’s completely overestimating herself.”
Another girl laughed, “I bet she’ll be thrown out by Edward in less than a minute.”

After a moment, Edward folded the report, “Eliza, you’re carrying my child?”
Instantly, everyone present was stunned.

The expressions on everyone’s faces were rich with emotion- shock, disdain, mockery.
Eliza put on a brave front, saying defiantly, “Edward, you’re the father of this child, so you have a right to know the truth. But I know there’s a huge gap between our social statuses, so I won’t force you to take responsibility. I’ll raise the child on my own.”
