Lorian immediately let go of me, still with some clarity left in his eyes.
“Saffron, do you really not recognize me? I’m Lorian.”
‘I’m your beloved Lorian Vale.”
I still hadn’t regained my senses, mumbling, “Lorian Vale? Don’t know him. Where’s Jareth? Where’s my Jareth?”
Lorian froze there. He finally understood what it meant to have your heart die.
Before this, he could still lie to himself, tell himself that Saffron was just temporarily angry, trying to spite him–that she couldn’t possibly have stopped loving hint for someone else.
But this situation made it crystal fucking clear-
He no longer mattered to Saffron at all!
The person she loved most wasn’t him anymore!
‘Saffron…” Lorian reached out, but only pulled his jacket tighter around me.
‘I’ve already hurt you so badly before. How could I dare hurt you again now?”
He gave a bitter laugh and returned to the driver’s seat.
Lorian watched the woman he loved most through the rearview mirror, knowing this was truly goodbye.
‘Saffron, as long as you’re happy, it doesn’t matter if the person beside you isn’t me.”
The car started up, speeding toward the main road, heading for the hospital.
‘Saffron, if ten years from now I’m not treating you right, leave my sorry ass and never forgive me.”
For some reason, he suddenly remembered those words–the ones eighteen–year–old Lorian had written so carefully
