Chapter 21
Scarlett froze, staring at Riley’s reddened eyes in confusion. “What?“]
Riley choked back tears, large droplets falling onto the desk.
The commotion drew glances from other employees.[]
Riley quickly wiped away her tears and pulled Scarlett into an office, speaking with forced control.[]
“What did you say to Nathaniel yesterday?”
Seeing her serious expression, Scarlett carefully repeated their exact conversation word for word.]
“That’s all I said, nothing else,” she concluded, pressing her lips together. “What’s wrong with Na–Mr. Blackwell? Why do I need to leave him alone?“]
After listening. Riley was silent for a moment, then turned away. “I’m sorry. It’s just that you look very similar to someone.“]]
Scarlett Scarlett paused. She knew that Willow’s face wasn’t actually very similar to hers–only the eyes strongly resembled her original appearance.]
Riley remained completely silent on this point. But seeing Scarlett’s confused expression and remembering her own outburst that morning, she felt compelled to explain.
“Since that person died, Nate hasn’t been himself. He probably mistook you for her.“[]
So it was a replacement scenario?]
Scarlett looked at Riley. “You’re his fiancée.“]
1e.“)
Riley stiffened, then replied bitterly, “If only that were true.”
At the hospital entrance, Nathaniel got into Detective Marcus’s car. As they drove, Marcus glanced at Nathaniel’s pale face and sighed. “Three years, and you still can’t let go?”
Nathaniel stared out the window, not responding.
Marcus continued, “You should sometimes consider the people around you. Three years ago, when you were in that state, Riley stayed by your side through it all. Doesn’t that move you at all?”
Nathaniel remained silent.
Marcus sighed again. “Fine, I won’t lecture you. But you’ve been stable for a year now. What happened yesterday? What triggered this?“]
Nathaniel’s gaze finally shifted, “I saw her.“]
Marcus frowned, about to say “here we go again” when Nathaniel turned to him. “Please stop the car.“]
The car pulled over, and Nathaniel opened the door. “Thank you.”
Marrus frowned, looking toward the coffee shop Nathaniel was approaching. Through the window, he could see a man and woman sitting together.
in the coffee shop, Scarlett stirred her drink. “I can’t remember anything.”
“Timm Dandan leaned back in his chair, watching her with interest. “You called me here just for this?”
Scarlett replied, “And to have coffee.”
Damian gave her a cold glance, laughed humorlessly, and stood to leave
Scarlett grabbed his wrist “Not even staying for this much?
Damian pulled his hand away, wiping his wrist with a napkin. His tone was dismissive. “Do you deserve that courtesy?“]
His words were as unpleasant as his demeanor
Chapter 21
“I think I do,” Scarlett said, looking directly into his eyes. “I just woke up yesterday and wasn’t thinking clearly. Last night I realized–researching me is your concern. I could refuse to cooperate entirely. If you want my cooperation, I shouldn’t be your subordinate; you should be asking for my help.“[]
Damian narrowed his eyes. “Me, ask you?“]
“When asking for help, one should have the right attitude,” Scarlett smiled slightly. “If you want my cooperation, tell me all the secrets about me.“]
Damian watched her for a moment, then suddenly sat back down. “Once you remember everything, you’ll know your secrets. In some ways, we’re pursuing the same thing.”
Scarlett said, “But with different methods. I want you to help me remember. I don’t want to stay around Nathaniel.“[]
“Oh?” Damian glanced ahead and smiled slightly. “Do you dislike Nathaniel that much?”
Scarlett answered honestly. “Not dislike, but I don’t want to see him.“]
“You never want to see him again?”
“No.”
Not even if it kills you?“]
“༼No་
“No.”
Damian’s lips curled into a smile. Scarlett frowned at his expression, not understanding its meaning.
Then she heard a calm voice from behind her:[]
“Is that so?”
Scarlett froze, turning to see Nathaniel standing behind her, staring at her coldly.[]
