Chapter 2
“I’m sorry, Willow, please don’t be angry. Ill give the phone to Chuck.“]
This routine again.[]
I held the phone away from my ear in exasperation.]
Sure enough, Chuck immediately launched into an accusation: “Willow, did you pressure Isa to come back for the surgery?”
Even from half a meter away, his voice hurt my ears.[]
“I didn’t.“[]
“I just wanted to tell you that Dr. Sinclair says I have three months to live.“[]
Chuck’s anger halted mid–rant, his voice tensing: “That’s impossible.“]
“That’s why I need you to bring Isa back now for the surgery. Will you do it?“[]
Hearing this, he inexplicably relaxed, his tone turning contemptuous: “Willow, you’d curse yourself just to trick us into coming back? You really will stop at nothing.”
“I’m only asking if you’ll do it or not.” This was the last time I would ask.
Chuck responded irritably. “Isa still wants to spend a couple of days in Hokkaido. Just wait a bit longer.”
I hung up, blocked all their contact information, took a deep breath, and pressed the call button by my bed.
“Dr. Sinclair, I want to be discharged.”
Chuck had wanted to say more.[]
When he tried calling back and found he couldn’t get through, his expression immediately darkened.[]
Not only had Willow lied to trick them and hung up on him, but she’d also blocked him–all without a single word of concern for him.
Despite everything he’d sacrificed, despite taking Isa to relax so she could prepare for the surgery sooner.
How dare she treat him this way?]
At that moment, Isa wrapped her arms around his waist, nestling against his chest sweetly. “What’s wrong with Willow?”
Such a gesture might seem intimate to others, but he only saw her as a sister.
That’s why he never rejected her closeness.
In fact, feeling frustrated, he leaned into her embrace.
“It’s nothing. Just a little tantrum.”
Isa pouted in disapproval. “You’re so good to her, and she’s still ungrateful.”
In that instant, Chuck had an epiphany.[]
That was it–he’d spoiled Willow too much, making her feel entitled.[]
He needed to give her the cold shoulder for a while.
Looking down, he asked, “Isa, where else would you like to visit besides Hokkaido?“|[]
A flash of triumph gleamed in Isa’s eyes.[]

“I’d love to sunbathe in the Maldives, but wouldn’t that waste too much time? Willow might get upset again.“[]
Chapter 2

Chuck dismissed the concern with a wave of his hand. “Don’t worry about her. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters.”
Back in my hospital room, Dr. Sinclair strongly opposed my decision, trying to convince me to stay.
“Willow, the surgery has a high success rate. We’ve been preparing for years. You can’t just give up now!“[]
But a single sentence from me made him relent.
I said: “Chuck has changed. He won’t support my surgery anymore.“[]
He was no longer the man who would walk through fire to save me.
He had someone else by his side now, and that person wasn’t kind–hearted.[]
Dr. Sinclair’s wrinkles trembled with anger, but there was nothing he could do.
In the end, he personally escorted me out.]
At the hospital entrance, I wore a mask but still breathed deeply and greedily.
The air outside wasn’t as sterile as the disinfected hospital room, but I welcomed it.|]
Dr. Sinclair looked at my face, his eyes filled with the concern of an elder for a young one: “You’re a good child, but you can’t withstand how easily people’s hearts change.”
I ́smiled faintly, indicating that none of that mattered anymore.[]
“Be happy for me. I’m going to start enjoying what’s left of my life.“]]
I made a quick trip home.
When I opened the door, I froze in shock.
Since being diagnosed with acute leukemia, my immune system had weakened so much that even the slightest exposure could make me severely ill.]
Chuck had been terrified and had me moved to a VIP hospital room.]
I hadn’t been back here since.]
I didn’t expect that when I returned, everything would be exactly as I remembered
This was the house we bought with our first big success. Though not very large, I loved it.
I once said I wanted to live here for the rest of my life.
