Chapter 11 Do You Deserve It?
Shirlene smiled ruefully, her voice tinged with bitterness, “You
know what? Me, too.”
All of her mood swings had been affected by Nolan before, and
she never thought that one day she would be so upset simply
because of a few words from Sebastian.
Simon looked at her thoughtfully, his expression mixed with a
certain playfulness.
Seeing Simon staring at her, she suddenly thought of something,
and a trace of anticipation flashed across her eyes. “Sebastian
called you and asked you to be here?”
Simon thought about what Sebastian had instructed him on the
phone and imperceptibly curled up his lips. “No.”
Shirlene’s eyes dimmed. She thought, “Perhaps it was Alissa
who called Simon, as she was worried about me.”
In her previous life, Simon always treated her when she was
sick, so she didn’t dwell on it.
“Sorry for the trouble. I’m fine. I just have a cold is all.”

Seeing her pale face, Simon said disapprovingly, “Now that I’m
here, I might as well check to see if you’re indeed OK.”
“Thanks.” Shirlene moved aside to let Simon and Alissa in.
Simon checked on Shirlene and made sure she only had a slight
cold. Then he smiled while cursing Sebastian silently.
He thought, “Sebastian called me and urged me to come here at
once, and I figured that something big had happened. And this is
it? She has a slight cold? Do I look idle to Sebastian?”
“It’s just a cold. There’s nothing serious,” Simon said. He then
took out a kraft bag and handed it to Shirlene. “Here’s the
medicine I prescribed for you. You’ll be fine after taking it a few
times.”
Shirlene took the bag and thanked him,
They chatted for a while, and then Simon left.
After he got in his car, he called Sebastian at once.
In the CEO’s office, the secretary was reporting the meeting minutes to Sebastian.
Suddenly, Sebastian’s phone rang. The secretary stopped talking, looked at Sebastian who was looking down at the

document, and was at a loss about whether to continue or not.
Sebastian flipped through the last page of the document, signed
his name, and then picked up his phone to answer the call.
The second the call came through, Simon said teasingly, “Exactly
how little do you care about your wife? The phone rang for
more than half a minute before you answered it.”
Sebastian glanced up at his secretary, motioned her out, and
then asked, “How is she?”
“If you care about her that much, why don’t you go back and
check on her yourself?” Simon curled his lips deliberately. Then
he said, exaggerating on purpose, “It’s a shame that you didn’t
get to see. Her eyes were so swollen that I even felt that you had
bullied her.”
Sebastian pursed his lips and frowned. “Get to the point.”
“The point is, somehow, I feel that Shirlene is different. Think
about how she went all out for Nolan back then…” Suddenly,
Simon paused. It seemed that he realized that he had said the
wrong thing. Then he quickly changed the subject, saying, “She
asked me if it was you who asked me to be there, and I said no, and then she looked upset. She obviously cares about you. Why don’t you take this opportunity to…”

“Upset?” Sebastian snorted and interrupted Simon. “You don’t
know Shirlene at all.”
Sebastian thought, “For Nolan, there’s nothing she can’t do.
“For Nolan, she put on the same act when facing me back then,
and I bought it.
“Then what? She made me look like a fool.
“Being played like that once is already more than enough.”
“I don’t think … she was pretending.” Simon didn’t quite agree with Sebastian, yet he couldn’t say for sure.
After all, Shirlene was an actress, and she was a very good actress no less. Perhaps she was acting indeed.
“Not important,” Sebastian said flatly, and Simon couldn’t tell what he was thinking. “Tell Yosef to let him go.”
Knowing that Yosef Houston was the man who locked Nolan up, Simon turned serious. “Have you thought it through?”
“Yes.” Sebastian stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling window, looking out over the city, his eyes a little indifferent. “I’ll give her the freedom she wants back.”
Simon opened his mouth, yet suddenly he didn’t know what to

say. He hung up the phone after saying, “OK.”
Shirlene felt dizzy, so she went to sleep after taking the
medicine prescribed by Simon.
It was not until the afternoon that she was awakened by the
vibration of her phone.
In a daze, she took out her phone from under her pillow and
pressed the button to answer.
“Hello?” Shirlene’s voice was husky, and she was so drowsy that she could not open her eyes.
“Shirlene!”
A roar came from the other end of the line. The man’s voice
mixed with anger and chill, dissipating most of her sleepiness in an instant. She opened her eyes at once.
She’d never forget that voice even if she died.
She shook slightly and clenched her phone in her right hand, and a trace of hatred was brewing in her eyes.
Nolan didn’t realize something was wrong with Shirlene and scolded harshly, “Shirlene, how come I didn’t realize before that you were so mean? What does it have to do with Daisy that I

don’t have feelings for you? She thinks of you as her sister and
has always been nice to you. How could you hurt her like that?
And you even wanted her and Molly out of the Osborne’s place!
How can you be so vicious?”
Shirlene took a deep breath and clenched her other hand into a
fist. Her body gradually stopped trembling, and she became
calm.
As she said nothing, Nolan figured that she realized her mistake
and was introspecting. He therefore said with complacency and
arrogance, “Go back to the Osborne’s place now and apologize to
Daisy to beg her to stay. Also, get Sebastian to show up and
personally apologize for hitting me at the bar. After that,
perhaps I’ll consider forgiving you. Otherwise, don’t…
Shirlene couldn’t hold back her anger even though she had clenched her fist hard. She was about to flare up.
Hearing Nolan’s words, she suddenly felt that she was such a fool in her previous life by falling for such a jerk.
“Stop dreaming!” Shirlene was so fed up that she sneered at him with a hoarse voice. “Who the fuck wants your forgiveness?”
If Nolan were in front of her right now, she would have slapped him a few times hard and asked him if he was talking in his dream.

She was so pissed off!
“What … did you say?” Nolan failed to react for a second.
“You may be taking yourself a bit too seriously.
“Have you forgotten something, Nolan? I give you everything
you have now. Without the resources and contacts I’ve given
you, what do you think you are?”
“Are you crazy, Shirlene?” Nolan felt that his face was burning.
Her words were like a slap in his face, making him feel
embarrassed and angry. “Who says you get to talk to me like this? I order you to apologize to me now, or I will never even
glance at you again for the rest of your life! Don’t even think about being my girlfriend!”
Shirlene let out a sneer disdainfully.
She thought, “Nolan is where he is because of me. If it weren’t
for me, Nolan would have still been playing some corpse in
some show right now. How can he take everything for granted? Shame on him!”
“Would you please look at yourself in a mirror? You are nowhere near Sebastian in any aspect! Who do you think you are to tell me what to do? Do you deserve it?

“You want Sebastian to apologize to you? Yeah, right! Keep
dreaming!”
Then Shirlene hung up the phone swiftly.
She seriously doubted that if she heard Nolan’s voice for one
more second, she would puke.
Nolan looked at the phone and was pissed off. She hung up on
him!
