Chapter 18 Ask Her to Be His Companion
Shirlene felt increasingly disheartened as she listened. Buena’s taunting and Sebastian’s patient response painted them as a couple, leaving Shirlene feeling like an outsider.
Despite her desire to retort to Buena and earn Sebastian’s acknowledgment, Sebastian refused to confirm their
relationship. If she weren’t afraid of upsetting him, she would have proclaimed herself as Sebastian’s wife!
Debby noticed Shirlene’s despondent expression and grew
suspicious. “Rumors say he’s married, but it’s unclear. No one.
has seen his wife, and he’s never mentioned her publicly. So…”
Debby shrugged. “Just a heads–up. Don’t get entangled. If his
marriage comes to light, he’ll be fine, but you’ll face trouble. A
man like Sebastian is beyond our league. Buena is probably
talking nonsense too…””
They walked towards the garage, and Debby talked nonstop.
“Anyway, you and he…”
“Debby, can you find out where Sebastian will go tonight? You
know, the party!” Shirlene suddenly stopped.

Debby looked back at her with doubt. “Why?”
“I…”
Just as Shirlene was about to answer, she heard a horn ahead.
As her voice fell, a silver Maserati was pulled over.
The window was put down, revealing Lester’s handsome face.
“Hey, Ms. Osborne. Nice to see you again,” Lester greeted, his
beautiful eyes slightly raised, and he wore an innocent smile.
“Where are you headed? Need a ride?”
Shirlene looked at him in surprise, wondering, “Why is he being
so friendly?”
She examined Lester and declined with a smile. “No, thanks. I’ll
have my agent give me a ride.”
Lester then noticed Debby, offering a smile and a greeting, but
he lingered.
Shirlene was perplexed. She didn’t believe Lester was just
passing by, so after some thought, she inquired, “Mr. Gerrard,
how can I assist you?”
“In fact, I’m going to a party and need a companion. “His eyes
shone slightly as he sighed with annoyance. “If you can be my

companion, it will be very helpful.”
Shirlene had an instinct to decline, but Lester’s words sparked a curiosity about whether he would attend the same party as
Sebastian.
Lester grinned at her, saying, “Truth be told, I’m not a fan of
parties. However, my family is interested in doing business with
Mr. Pearson, and since he’s invited, I accepted the invitation.”
Shirlene couldn’t discern if Lester had figured her out or if it
was merely a coincidence.
Shirlene thought, “Mr. Pearson? Sebastian Pearson?”
But she just met Lester an hour ago. She didn’t know why he
would say so.
“Mr. Gerrard, we just met an hour ago, didn’t we? Why would
you ask me to be your companion?” Shirlene felt puzzled.
Lester scratched his hair with a smile, his eyes shining. “Did I
surprise you?”
Shirlene thought, “It’s not about that.”
Observing her silence, Lester appeared disappointed but raised
his head, offering a smile. “If you’re not comfortable, I won’t
insist.”

“No, I’d be happy to assist you,” Shirlene replied with a smile, her
lips painted red.
Considering attending the party when Lester requested a favor,
Shirlene wasn’t convinced Lester was ill–intentioned. Debby
shared this sentiment, so she saw no issues.
Debby nudged her upon hearing Shirlene agree to accompany
Lester, whispering, “Why did you say yes? What if the
paparazzi catch wind of it?”
“Don’t worry, Debby. I’ve got it under control.” With that,
Shirlene entered the car before Debby could say more.
“Don’t worry. I’ll send Shirl back.” Lester had a faint smile in his
brown eyes.
A touch of concern flashed in Debby’s eyes. But Lester closed
the window and drove away.
His tone was tainted with intimacy.
Shirlene wanted to say something and glanced at him.
However, she didn’t know how to put it.
“I think ‘Ms. Osborne‘ is too much. So I decided to call you Shirl.
Are you OK with that?” Lester squinted at her with an innocent
smile.

Although he seemed very casual and even flippant, he was not
annoying. So Shirlene didn’t know what to say.
The car drove out of the urban area to the mountain area.
Halfway, the sky turned dark. In a few minutes, raindrops fell.
It was dark when they arrived.
A villa atop the hill caught their attention, brightly illuminated
with music wafting from within.
The car halted, and two waiters promptly approached with an
umbrella. Lester chose a black one, escorting Shirlene out of the
car.
As they approached the entrance, Lester halted abruptly,
informing her, “I’ve left my invitation and phone in the car. I’ll
retrieve them shortly.“”
Shirlene didn’t think much. She nodded and kept walking.
Then she was stopped at the door.
“Miss, please show us the invitation.” A woman in her thirties.
stopped her. She was wearing a suit.
“I came with Mr. Gerrard. He went back to his car and will be
back soon.“‘ Shirlene explained out of politeness and wanted to

get in, only to be stopped by her.
The woman gave Shirlene a disdainful look and remarked,
“Miss, you can’t enter without an invitation. This crowd is
affluent and influential. If you offend anyone, I can’t bear the
consequences. Since you claim to be with someone, wait for him.
here.”
Hearing her tone, Shirlene was annoyed. Apparently, that
woman thought of her as a gold digger who depended on men.
Shirlene retorted, “I…” and lifted her head to spot Sebastian in
the crowd, engaged in conversations with those around him.
Buena trailed beside him, seemingly in a submissive
partnership.
But Shirlene was even stopped at the door, which made Shirlene
sad.
Probably because of her gaze, Sebastian had a feeling and
looked over.
Through the crowd, their eyes met. Then Sebastian frowned.
He wondered why Shirlene would be here.
“Sebastian? He’s talking to you.” Buena reminded him quietly. Then Sebastian withdrew his gaze and talked to the man beside

him.
Buena turned her head and looked in the direction where
Sebastian cast his gaze. As she saw Shirlene, her smile became
faint.
