“How strange. Kael sounded like he was ready for a fight when he heard about your engagement.“]]
“Hope, didn’t you tell him?“]]
My heart tightened, and I quickly changed the subject.[]
Before the engagement, Jake had indeed asked me to invite Kael to the engagement party.

He said: “Kael and I are close, and he looked out for you all those years when you were on the West Coast. It’s only right to invite him.“]
I agreed on the surface but quietly kept that invitation.[]
I told Jake that Kael said he was too busy and didn’t have time to attend.[]
That cold, heartless man didn’t deserve to be at my engagement party.[]
I had thought that after I left the West Coast, he would focus on removing the obstacles between him and Sophia, breaking through social conventions to be together.]
I also thought that aside from revenge, there would be no more connection between us.[]
But I never expected he would suddenly show up at my engagement party.[]
How unlucky.[]
Just as I was feeling irritated, a piece of candy suddenly appeared in front of me.[]
Grayson waved the candy in his hand.[]
“Our own wedding favors–we should at least try one, right?“]
I couldn’t help but smile.]
“Don’t mind if I do, my fiancé.“]
The engagement party ended.[]

After seeing off all the guests and family, Grayson and I leaned against each other in a daze, talking about past experiences and future expectations.[]
As the night grew deeper, Grayson held me reluctantly.[]
“Let’s get married soon, so we don’t have to separate and I don’t have to take you home.“[]
I looked at his puppy–dog eyes, wet with emotion.]
I touched his head and whispered in his ear: “Soon.“]]
Grayson drove toward my house.
A light drizzle was falling from the sky.]
The surrounding plants and trees reflected moonlight in the darkness.]
When we stopped at a red light, my phone rang–it was Jake calling.
I smiled and urged Grayson: “Drive faster, Jake’s calling to hurry me home.“[]
Grayson: “Yes, miss.“]]
I answered: “We’ll be home soon, don’t worry.” “O
Jake: “Hope, has Kael called you?”
Hearing Kael’s name twice in one day gave me an ominous feeling.]
I answered: “No.“]]
I was about to say not to mention that person anymore.[]
jake spoke with confusion.[]

“How strange. He just drove from the West Coast to our house, When he found out you weren’t there, he asked for the engagement party address and immediately drove off again.“[]
“He looked like he was in bad shape and driving fast. I’m a bit worried.“[]
He joked.[]
“Guess all those years of following him around paid off–he’s so eager to congratulate you on your engagement in person.“[]
I silently groaned.]
The possibility of congratulations was slim.[]
Going crazy was more likely.[]
After all, with his domineering personality, being quietly dumped and abandoned by me would bruise his ego.[]

But I had no obligation to care about his feelings anymore.[]
“Grayson, drive carefully…“[]
Before I could finish speaking, a black Maybach burst into the rainy night.[]
It was going too fast, splashing water everywhere.]
Grayson slammed on the brakes, and the two cars barely avoided colliding.
My heart stopped for a moment.[]
Grayson immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and asked if I was hurt.[]
I smiled palely and shook my head, signaling him not to worry.[]
When I looked up at the car window, I saw Kael opening his car door and getting out.[]

The night rain had made the car glass very blurry.[]
But even with just a silhouette, I could be certain.[]
It was Kael.[]
