The next day, I took a taxi back to the villa I shared with Kael.]]

He was eating breakfast and looked up when I came back, calmly instructing the housekeeper to prepare another portion.[]
“I didn’t know you’d be back at this time, so I didn’t prepare yours in advance.“[]
I nodded: “Okay.“]]
He didn’t not know–he was just too lazy to know, too lazy to care enough to ask.[]
At my response, Kael paused.[]
He looked up from the news on his phone, a flash of confusion in his eyes.[]
Yes, if this had been before, I definitely would have pouted and sat next to him, stealing the breakfast from his hands.]

The sound of footsteps and the closing door faded together.[]
The housekeeper asked me: “Miss Carter, what would you like to eat?“[]
I shook my head: “I won’t eat. Please prepare some shipping boxes for me, I need them today.“[]
I took my suitcase back to the bedroom.]
When the housekeeper brought the boxes, I packed my clothes and personal belongings separately.[]
Then I went to Kael’s walk–in closet.]

Over the years, I’d given him many ties, cufflinks, clothes, watches, and more.[]
But he rarely wore any of them.]]
Unless I forced him to put them on, these things barely saw the light of day.
Just like me as his girlfriend–I could only exist in the shadows.
\I swallowed the pain in my throat and took back all the things I’d given Kael, packing them into boxes one by one.[]
It took a long time to finally finish packing everything.]
I sat on the bed, breathing heavily.]]
My phone received a message from Kael.[]
[I sent the driver to pick you up. He’ll be there in half an hour.]]]
Simple wording, without even explaining the context.]
He was certain I would never refuse anything he said.]]
I laughed bitterly at myself.[]
Perfect timing–it was time to tell him we were breaking up anyway.[]
