When I woke up again, I was in the Reed family’s private hospital.[]
Kael stood by the large floor–to–ceiling window, his tall figure casting a long shadow.[]
Hearing movement, he turned to look at me: “You’re awake.“[]
I smiled bitterly: “Disappointed you didn’t kill me?”
Kael’s expression was somber.[]

“Yesterday, you went too far.“]
“Sophia just got back to the country. You slapped her in front of so many people–how could she save face? How is she supposed to establish herself in this circle now?“]
“So you had to pay me back a hundredfold?“]]
I shouted, hurling the water glass from the windowsill at him:[]
“You care about her face and her situation–what about me?“[]
“If you like her, then go after her. Why use this brother–sister charade to disgust everyone?“]
“Hope Carter!” He cut me off, his whole body trembling slightly.]
Dark clouds rolled across his usually impassive face.[]
Kaei stared at me intently.
“Sophia will only ever be my sister in this lifetime.“]]
“You need to calm down and stop being unreasonable.“[]
He turned to leave.[]
At the door, he suddenly stopped.]
With his back to me, he spoke in a low voice.[]
“I’ll make this up to you for what happened.“]

My mouth twitched–the irony was overwhelming.]
I had brought up telling him so many times before.[]

He always made excuses to avoid it.[]
Now, after Sophia’s return, he was the one suggesting it.[]
Was he afraid he couldn’t control himself around Sophia?]
So he desperately needed a relationship to help him give up on her.[]

I sent Jake a message.]]
