Chapter 7
On the way home, Kael sat in the back of the Maybach without saying a word.[]
After adjusting his wording several times in his head, the assistant finally couldn’t help but speak up.[]
“Mr. Reed, if you keep favoring Miss Sophia and hurting Miss Carter like this, she’s really going to give up on you.“[]
Kael’s mood was dark and heavy, saying nothing.]
The assistant boldly continued.[]
“Miss Carter has been so good to you. She was the acknowledged campus beauty at school. From her first day there, suitors never stopped pursuing her, but her heart and eyes were full of only you.“]
“She used to have such a bold, bright personality, but she’s changed so much for you. You didn’t like her tight clothes, short skirts, and big waves style, so she switched to white dresses.“[]

“You didn’t like irregular schedules, and your health kept getting worse from being too busy, so she searched everywhere for body–conditioning recipes, personally bought ingredients to learn how to make soup for you. You don’t know this, but in the beginning, her hands got burned with blisters several times.”
“That time you drank until you had stomach bleeding during business negotiations, she cried all night at the hospital, then pretended nothing happened and smiled at you the next day.“]]
The assistant couldn’t continue. Even he felt sorry for Hope.]
He and Hope were alumni and had personally witnessed how passionate and free she used to be.[]
Now seeing her constantly suppressing herself to please Kael, yet still not holding the same place in Mr. Reed’s heart as Sophia did–he felt it wasn’t worth it for Hope.[]
Kael looked out the window and interrupted him in a low voice: “Too talkative.“[]
But the assistant couldn’t control himself from speaking.[]
Thinking of his own love life, he spoke with some regret:[]
“Mr. Reed, people’s hearts have limits. After too many disappointments, it becomes very hard to win them back.“[]
Kael’s chest suddenly tightened.]
His mind suddenly flashed to that time with the stomach bleeding, when he woke up to see Hope’s red rimmed eyes and smiling face.
The scenes switched rapidly.
The first time she made soup and brought it to him, he noticed from the corner of his eye the burn blisters on her hands.[]
He only took one sip before telling her.
Chapter 7
“Don’t make it anymore.“[]
He didn’t want her to get hurt because of it.[]
At that moment, disappointment flashed through Hope’s eyes.[]
But she still lifted her face and smiled at him.[]
“I guess you don’t like the chicken broth. Next time I’ll make you bone broth instead.[]

The next second, his mind filled with yesterday’s surveillance footage of Hope, disheveled and with tear–filled eyes looking at the camera.
Kael suddenly felt like he couldn’t breathe.[]
He ordered: “Back to the hospital.“]

The assistant’s face brightened.[]
He immediately turned around.
Just as the car stopped downstairs from the hospital, Kael’s phone rang.]
Sophia’s voice came through.[]
“Kael, I slipped in the bathroom. It hurts so much.“]]
Kael’s grip on the phone tightened.[]
He looked up and saw that the lights were still on in Hope’s hospital room.[]
On the phone, Sophia was acting cute and urging him to come back.
Kael took a deep breath and glanced at his assistant: “Back to the estate.“]
The assistant opened his mouth to speak, but Kael’s voice suddenly rose.[]
“I said go back!“]
The assistant was so startled his whole body trembled.[]
He started the car.
