Chapter 11
I scoffed, “Mr. and Mrs. Acrea, business doesn’t mix with sentiment.”
“When I married into the Acrea family, didn’t you say the exact same thing while handing me that voluntary asset waiver?”
“You’re businesspeople. Now so am I.”
Surely you understand my position, having been there yourselves?”
The Acreas slinked off, shamefaced.
And I didn’t stop, taking advantage of the sharp drop in the Acrea Group’s shares, I continued to buy shares of the Acrea Group.
Until Adam presided over the shareholders‘ meeting, the person sitting opposite him was me.
He stared at me dazedly, even forgetting to speak.
And Abigail and Layla sat on either side of him, glaring at me with
venom.
My eyes glanced over Layla’s slightly swollen belly, and I snéered.
Adam still looked at me for a long time without speaking.
I reminded him coldly, “Mr. Acrea, please report on the current cash flow situation of the Acrea Group.”
He pursed his lips, under the watchful eyes of the other shareholders, he finally looked away from my face.
Chapter 11
After the shareholders‘ meeting ended, Adam grabbed me, “Hannah, can I treat you to dinner?”
Afraid I would refuse, he quickly added,
That restaurant you love the
most, they have new items recently.”
Behind him, Layla suddenly cried out, “Ouch! Adam, my stomach hurts.“.
Adam impatiently turned and slapped her. “See a doctor if your stomach hurts! What good am I?”
Layla whimpered pitifully, “I think I’m going into labor. Adam, could you come to the hospital with me?”
Abigail kept glaring daggers at me. “Who’d have thought you’d land on your feet? Divorced Adam only to remarry New York’s richest man?”
“Seems us kept women aren’t as clever as plain and unassuming Mrs.
Harlan.”
She curled her lips at Adam. “You can take me to dinner.”
“But I have a condition.”
Adam eagerly responded, “Name it. I’ll agree to anything.
I pointed at Abigail. “I want her serving tea.”
Abigail shrieked instantly, “Impossible! Who do you think you are, ordering me around?”
Adam smacked Abigail across the face again. “And who are you? Who allowed you to speak to Ms. Hackett like that!”
Chapter 11
“You two are nothing but playthings for my amusement.”
“Don’t think you can take Hannah’s place just because she’s not here. I’ll only ever recognize Hannah as my wife.”
When Adam and I arrived at the restaurant, Mason was already waiting
there.
He smiled and took my hand. “Tired today?”
I shook my head and hugged him. “Not tired.”
He smoothly pulled out my chair.
Adam followed behind with a grim expression, giving me a bitter smile. “I thought you’d have dinner with me alone.”
I raised an eyebrow. “I’m a married woman. How could I lack boundaries and dine alone with another man?”
Adam instantly fell silent. He knew I was mocking him.
We had just started eating when Layla suddenly clutched her stomach, “Adam, I’m going into labor!”
Adam’s face turned extremely grim as he threw the food at Layla, “You’re heavily pregnant! Why can’t you just stay home instead of following me. around?”
Abigail’s eyes reddened beside them, “That’s your baby in my sister’s belly! How can you be so heartless!”
Furious, Adam shoved her away hard, “Get lost!”
Then he turned to me, “Ignore them. Let’s keep eating.”
Chapter 11
I raised an eyebrow and called the waiter, “Please call an ambulance for this pregnant lady.”
At that moment, Adam answered a call as Howard Acrea’s cursing voice came through, “Adam, there’s a limit to your recklessness! If anything happens to Layla’s baby, you can forget about being the CEO of the Acrea Group!”
