Chapter 6
Adam stood there, shocked, staring at the scene in front of him. The basement had turned into a burned, blackened mess.
After a long while, he flew into a rage and kicked the bodyguard in the stomach. “Where is Hannah? Didn’t I tell you to rescue her?”
The bodyguard kept his head down, trembling as he replied, “M–Mr. Acrea, we have no idea what happened. It’s like Mrs. Acrea disappeared into thin air. The fire department said they found no remains inside.
“We tried to report to you, but the signal was always lost.
“Before you left, you told us not to disturb you and the Daulton sisters. So we eventually gave up, planning to report when you returned.”
Just then, a postman called from outside, “Mr. Acrea! You have a letter.”
The bodyguard seized the opportunity like a lifeline, rushing to fetch the mail and respectfully handing it to Adam
With a cold expression, Adam tore it open and found a divorce certificate
inside.
His fingers shook uncontrollably as he muttered to himself, “I forgot to cancel it. If Hannah finds out, she’ll be totally heartbroken.”
Then he tried to comfort himself, “It’s okay. As long as I find Hannah, calm her down, and we get remarried, everything will be fine.”
He took a long look at the mess in the basement and turned back to the bedroom.

But he found that everything related to Hannah was gone. There was no sign of her at all.
The bed had been replaced with a princess bed, the curtains changed to pink, and even the floor mats were brand new.
Adam suddenly flew into a rage. “Get all this junk out of here!
“Where are my wife’s belongings? Bring back all of my wife’s belongings!”
The butler hurried forward to report, “Mr. Acrea, the day the Daulton sisters moved in, they told us to throw out all of Mrs. Acrea’s things, saying it was your instruction.”
Adam erupted in fury, punching the butler in the face. “Who told you to listen to them?”
The butler kept his head down, too scared to respond.

He pulled out his phone and refreshed it again, but Hannah still hadn’t replied.
All his calls went unanswered.
Adam dropped his eyes, typing in a flustered way.
“Hannah, I’m back. I thought I’d stopped fooling around. Don’t play hide- and–seek with me, okay?
“I swear I’ll only be with you from now on. Please come back.”
But this time, he realized he had been blocked.

Furious, Adam smashed his phone to the ground and roared at the circle of bodyguards behind him, “Find her! I want to see Hannah within three days!”
At the same time, Mason Harlan was sitting by my bed, peeling an apple.
“Do you feel better today?”
I nodded and said to him, “Thanks.”
He smiled and cut the apple into small pieces for me. “Don’t be so formal with me. We’re getting married soon.”
I felt a sudden flush of shyness.
When Adam first handed me the divorce agreement, my heart felt empty. Then Mason, my childhood neighbor, suddenly asked how I’d been doing
recently.
Without thinking, I blurted out if he would marry me.
Seeing the “typing…” indicator go on, I instantly regretted it and was about to explain.
But he only sent a few words. “I’m flying back immediately to take you to meet my parents. They’ve missed you.”
By then, I’d completely given up on Adam.
I thought marrying someone else might be better. At least, I wouldn’t be hurt by him anymore.
I just didn’t expect what happened later. If Mason hadn’t arrived in time, I might have died.
Thinking of all I’d been through, I clenched my fists tightly, hatred
flashing in my eyes.
Suddenly, I grabbed Mason’s wrist, and I look
