Chapter 216
Chapter 216
Brad POV
“Great!” Mom clasped her hands. “We will start preparing for it. The Luna trials will begin next week.”
“So soon?” I asked, my eyes widening.
Father chuckled as he wrapped her shoulders with his arm. “She was already prepared when she came to meet you. All we have to do now is roll it out. The trials are prepared to the 1.” He kissed her temple, pride swelling in his chest.
I watched them leave and jealousy twinged my heart. This was the kind of love I wanted. They were so devoted to each other. Goddess, where was my mate? I would wait for her for eternity…
The very next day, my twin sister, Tamara arrived. Of course, how could she be left out of this?
She had decided not to attend the college because of her Luna duties in Everflame pack. After her marriage with Matt, she was one of the happiest women I’d seen in my life. Ugh. Sometimes, their love gave me a toothache. Matt had been extremely devoted to her. He had given his unconditional alliance to father. I liked him a lot. Tammy didn’t want pups for three years until she turned twenty–one, and he respected her feelings.
I also dropped out of college and helped father in his Alpha duties. I took my job seriously, and no one messed with me unless they had a death wish. My father knew that I was stronger than him, because I was the child of fated mates and a direct descendent of the moon goddess. Many she–wolves from my pack and the neighboring ones tried to jump in my bed, but my wolf sent them away, growling.
And just like that, the next week Tammy and mom spent preparing for the Luna trials. Since I was least interested in it, I was plotting ways on how to avoid it. But my sister kept a tab on me. She was also the most frustrating woman in my life. Even my brother acted like traitors with the way they helped Tammy. I think they loved Tammy more than they loved me.
As the date of the announcement approached, all I wanted was to get it over with. Candidates from various packs started arriving. The trials were going to last for one month. Who the hell could even choose a mate in one month? It was pure torture. I wished goddess that she sent me on an unavoidable task. Like World War III. Or the apocalypse would come.
I stabbed my fingers in my hair as I looked at the preparations. Mom had selected a resort for the candidates to stay. And all of us had to stay cooped there for a month. Which meant that I wasn’t allowed to leave the place like others. Frustration roared through me like nothing. I picked up a glass statue from the mantle in my room and threw it angrily at the wall. It smashed into a thousand pieces as I let out a menacing growl.
The door opened and in walked Tammy. She looked at the shattered glass pieces. “I can see you are upset,” she said, carefully stepping over a glass
shard.
“What do you want?” I asked as I walked to my bed where I was packing.
“It’s Saturday evening, and you should have been at the resort already.”
“Don’t get started, Tam. I’m not in a mood.” I took out some slacks from the armoire and threw them in the suitcase.
She let out a frustrated sigh. “Stop wallowing in self–pity, Brad.”
I narrowed my eyes on her. Only she had the audacity to tease me like this. “Self pity?”
She continued as she gave me the silk shirts that were hanging in the armoire. “Yes,” she reiterated. “Self pity. You haven’t found Summer in three years. She hasn’t contacted you in that time. It means that she has moved on. So give that girl a chance to move on, and you move on with your life instead of wallowing in your misery and making the pack suffer as well.”
Her words were like ice water over my spirits. She could be right. Summer must have chosen someone else. Disgust bubbled in my heart. I was the strongest Alpha in the north like my dad. And yet here I was. “You’re wrong,” I growled. I wanted a reason to believe her, but my heart wasn’t.
She shook her head as she brought some bows and ties. “Brad.” She placed them in the suitcase. “I know that your wolf is pining for her, but maybe she is already married. Maybe she has a baby. There are a thousand things that could have happened to her.” She placed a hand on my forearm. “Give yourself a chance to live. Mom and dad are sad when they see you like this. They are doing it for you. Please…” Her eyes filled with tears, and my heart

squeezed.
“Come here,” I said and pulled her in an embrace. She was right. I was being selfish. We stood in that position for a while,
“Let’s hurry,” she chuckled, pulling away. “You have to be there by the end of the night, We don’t want to be late for our debut on Luna trials.
I rolled my eyes. “I heard that dad has arranged for a mating ball before that.”
“No silly. The ball is just for the introduction of the candidates.”
We hit the road soon, but I wasn’t ready to go inside the resort. My wolf was restless. Midway, I said, “Blaze wants to run.”
Tammy cocked an eyebrow. “Now?”
I nodded, stopping the Jeep.
“But you are expected to be there for the introduction!” she reminded me. “Mom and dad are going to kill me if they see you’re missing”
Blaze didn’t like the idea of meeting anyone, He was growling inside me. ‘I want to run!’
“Tell them I had some important tasks come up.”
Then without waiting for her to speak, I shifted in my wolf form and loped in the forest. Blaze ran for hours to release his pent–up frustration. He killed two elks who challenged him, and uprooted a few trees.
Finally, we reached the resort in the early morning hours when a few stars were still twinkling and the moon had faded in the horizon.
However, the moment I approached the main gate, I froze.
