She tiptoed up beside him, eyes full of pretend concern.
“Did I upset your wife?” she asked sweetly. “Maybe I should just go.”
“She’s got a bad temper,” Ellery pouted, “and I don’t trust her to take care of you. But I still want her to be happy.”> Wren pulled her into his arms.
“What are you talking about? You care about her happiness, but not mine?” He smirked. “You little heartless thing.”%
“It’s just, I hate seeing girls cry,” she mumbled.
He tapped her nose affectionately and replied, “Silly girl. I’m the one taking care of you now. Why are you even siding with her? You really think she’s your big sister?”

“Hmph, I don’t care. Go coax her back!” Ellery pretentiously urged.
But Wren just scoffed. “Heh, coax her? She doesn’t deserve it. All she does is cause trouble. If she had even half your sweetness and willingness to get along, I’d be more than satisfied.”
Seeing that he truly had no intention of going after Denisse, Ellery finally let out
in to kiss him.
A while later, the sound of intimacy faded into silence.§
With a playful glint in her eyes, Ellery said, “I’ve got a surprise for you.“}
Then she turned and walked into the bathroom.§

Meanwhile, Wren stepped out onto the balcony to clear his head. He pulled out his phone and scrolled through his call logs and messages again and again.
It had been nearly a month since he blocked Denisse.§
But there was no call or a single text from her.
Infuriated, he made up his mind not t to forgive her easily, no matter what.”
Since she badly wanted a divorce, she could stay gone for good, he thought.
Just then, the door opened, and a soft, familiar voice came over.
“Honey~”
His heart leapt. Instinctively, he turned around, expecting Denisse.
But it was Ellery.
She was wearing one of Denisse’s old nightgowns.

Normally, he’d be all over her by now. But this time, his face darkened, and he coldly said, “Who told you to wear her clothes? Who told you to call me that?“>
Ellery’s smile froze. “I… I just thought… Since your wife’s been gone so long, maybe when we’re close, it’ll make her feel included…“}
“Take. It. Off. Now,” he barked slowly.
She opened her mouth to pout and act cute, but the ringing of his phone interrupted her.
He glanced at the screen and, upon seeing who the caller was, instantly picked it up.”
Before Denisse could say a word, he was already speaking. “Denisse? Finally coming around? If you apologize to Ellery, I’ll forgive you. From now on, you two get along, okay? Be like real sisters. Do we really need to make this issue big?”
Denisse actually laughed out loud as he thought she was calling to make peace.

Denisse scoffed in disbelief. “Huh! Wren, I never realized how hypocritical you were. You sleep around
and expect me to tolerate it?“}
“I had reasons. You couldn’t satisfy me, couldn’t give me a child, so what’s wrong with finding someone else? Everyone in our circle does it. Why is it a problem when I do?” he defended.
“You’re disgusting,” Denisse spat. “There’s nothing left for me to say. I only called to remind you that three days from now, we will finalize the divorce. Don’t show, and I’ll make sure you regret it.”
After that, she hung up and blocked his number.}
“Denisse, you’ve really got guts!” Wren growled and then hurled his phone across the room.
The crash startled Ellery so much she jumped.}

Noticing her, he turned on her, furious. “Didn’t I tell you to change out of that? Why are you still standing here?”
Trembling, she rushed to the closet to get changed.
But when she opened it, Wren froze.
He grabbed her wrist tightly and sharply asked, “Where are Denisse’s clothes?”
Ellery’s blood ran cold.”
She couldn’t admit she’d thrown them out because she couldn’t stand the sight of them.”
So she lied, “I… I don’t know. Maybe your wife came home and took them?”
Wren glanced around the room, and that was when he realized that everything Denisse had made was gone.
The little clay dolls on the desk, the wall art she picked out, and the scented candles on her nightstand were all gone.§ He couldn’t see any trace of her left.”
As such, panic surged through him for reasons he couldn’t explain.
