Allan’s face darkened: “Lydia, are you refusing to pay compensation?”
I glared at him: “If I’m truly at fault, I’m willing to take responsibility, but this is extortion. I’m not someone who can be bullied around.”
With that, I turned to push the door and leave.
But they all blocked the doorway in unison.
“Your family are big financial moguls. How can we ordinary people afford to fight you in court?”
“You’re not leaving through this door today unless you pay up.‘
I looked at them warily: “What are you trying to do? This is illegal.”

Before I could finish speaking, they ganged up and pushed me to the ground. Before I could even get up, they started kicking me one by one.

Allan sighed, feigning helplessness: “You don’t understand – she’s the only daughter of the Ford family, the richest family in our state. We did call the police before, but she was released within days.”
The surrounding discussions grew more heated.
“Rich people really don’t treat ordinary folks like human beings. People like this deserve to be beaten to death!”
Some even joined in beating me.
“You capitalists suck our blood, take our hard–earned money, and don’t even leave us a way to survive!”

I was drenched in all sorts of disgusting substances, utterly disheveled. I was forced to listen to their slander and
defamation of my parents, like a joke being trampled by
everyone.
Allan crouched down in front of me condescendingly, his eyes full of smugness and contempt.
“Lydia, you still won’t admit your mistakes?” His tone was aggressive, as if everything was my fault. “Your family is so wealthy – isn’t this compensation only natural?”
He said, “You think you can brush us off with a measly five million dollars each? Now you need to give us at least ten million dollars each.”
He raised his voice, and the people around him joined in the
commotion.
“That’s right, you have to pay us ten million dollars each.”
“Otherwise we’ll expose how your company persecutes ordinary people!”
“Let’s see if you can still survive in this industry!”
“We’ll make your family go completely bankrupt!”
