Chapter 10
My father’s face was dark with fury as he gave the order to his Beta.
“Bring that damn she–wolf back to me.”
But I shook my head.
“No need.”
They turned to me, stunned.

“If we shut down the trending topic and drag her back now, it’ll only make us look guilty,” I said calmly, eyes cold. “Since she had the guts to lie, I’ll make sure her lies are torn to pieces in front of everyone.”
With that, I turned on my phone and pulled up an audio file from
my
archive.
It was a recording I’d made outside my adoptive parents‘ home–capturing every word of that damning conversation.
“Who the hell is Lauren? Everything she had growing up should’ve been mine.”
“Don’t worry. You’ve already got her mate. You’ll get her child too.”
“Just be patient, Megan. Once the baby’s born, it’ll all be yours.”
I uploaded the full recording online, no edits, no filters.
The effect was instant.
Public opinion flipped in a matter of hours.
But of course, there were still skeptics—some insisted the audio must’ve been fake, edited.
Then, out of nowhere, someone unexpected came forward.
Landon issued a public apology.
The internet exploded.
But the apology backfired—no one bought it. In fact, the backlash against him only intensified.
Later, he reached out to me, asking to meet in person.
“Lauren, I know you don’t want to see me, but… there are things I need to say to you. Face to face.”
I declined.
He no longer had the power to shake me- not even a little.
But the next day, as I was stepping out the door, a car suddenly accelerated and came barreling toward me.
Tires screeched across the pavement.
And in that split second-
Someone dove forward and shoved me out of the way.
Bang!
He was hit head–on, blood spreading across the concrete like spilled paint.
Warriors rushed in and wrestled the driver out of the car.
Megan.
She came out screaming, hair a mess, eyes wild. She looked completely unhinged.
“Lauren! You bitch! You ruined my life! Why the hell are you still alive?!”
She lunged toward me, shrieking, eyes full of venom and hatred.
The warriors restrained her quickly, but she thrashed and screamed like
a
rabid animal.
I stood there, watching the chaos unfold, expression flat, heart Chapter 10
unmoved.

Landon lay on the ground, blood pooling beneath him, his face ghostly pale. But his gaze never left mine–raw, haunted.
“Lauren…” he rasped, reaching out to grab the hem of my coat.
I stepped back, just out of reach.
He opened his mouth to speak again, but Megan suddenly let out a deranged scream.
“You’re protecting her now?!”
Her eyes blazed red as she glared at him, pure hatred in her voice.
“You used to be on my side! You promised to help me! What happened to that?!”
Landon gave a bitter, broken laugh.
“Megan, I’ve been wrong this whole time. Why can’t you see that?”
“See what?” Megan let out a sharp, twisted laugh. “That I did exactly what you did? You lied to her for me–but now you think I went too far?”
Her eyes sparkled with manic energy.
“You regret it now? Too late. Lauren doesn’t give a damn about you anymore.”
Landon flinched like she’d slapped him.
And in that moment, I could tell-
He finally realized just how deep a mistake he’d made.
But I was done picking up the pieces of their mess.
I glanced at the warriors and said evenly, “The pack doctor’s on the way.”
He was quiet for a long moment before speaking again, voice barely above a whisper.
“Lauren… is there any way we can go back?”
I let out a soft laugh.
Go back?
He wanted to return to a past he’d shattered with his own hands?
That Lauren–the one who’d believed in him–died on the operating table.
I met his eyes, voice calm and cold.
“Landon, there is no ‘back then‘ for us.‘
}}
“You really think looking broken and remorseful now will wipe the slate clean?”
“You’re the one who sealed the mate bond with me, the one who lied and told me I couldn’t have children. You’re the one who betrayed me for Megan.”
“And now you’re sorry? What good is that?”
“You think you’re the one in pain? What a joke.”
Each word cut like a blade, sharp and deliberate.
In the end, his hand fell limply to the ground, his eyes filled with regret and anguish.
But none of it had anything to do with me anymore.
Megan didn’t escape justice.
She had intentionally tried to kill someone–there was no leniency for that. She was sent straight to the werewolf prison.
This time, there would be no comeback.
Her parents–Amanda and Ryan, the ones who once spoiled her beyond reason–finally panicked.
They came crawling to me.
H
Amanda clung to my hand, sobbing uncontrollably.

“Lauren, please… no matter what, we raised you, didn’t we? Megan’s still
young.
Do
you really have
to
go
this far?”
Even Ryan looked defeated.
“You already have everything now. Do you really need to destroy her?”
I stared at the two of them, completely numb.
They called it raising me. But it had never been out of love–it was survival. They needed a sacrifice, a replacement, someone to build Megan’s future on.
And now that Megan had destroyed herself, they wanted my compassion?
How irony is that.
I pulled my
hand away and
gave a cold, subtle smile.
“I told you before,” I said clearly, “the moment you abandoned me, we stopped being family.”
“Don’t pretend this is about ‘love.‘ You don’t get to use that word.”
Their faces turned ghost white.
And as they stood there, desperate and hollow, I felt nothing. Not even anger–just a strange, some kind of irony.
Megan spiraled into madness in prison. Landon was left permanently crippled.
As for Amanda and Ryan–I never heard from them again.
Everything had come full circle.
The nightmare was over.
At last, I was free from that cold, calculating house–and finally living a life that was truly mine.
The dream was broken.
And those who betrayed me?
They all paid the price.
As for me-
I never looked back.
