Chapter 5
I looked up at him and let out a bitter laugh.
“Explain? Explain what exactly? How you used my body as a breeder for someone else? That while I carried your child, you played the doting mate to me by day and snuck off to comfort her at night?”
“I thought you really loved me,” I said, eyes fixed on him, my voice thick with disbelief and pain. “After everything–the betrayal–I honestly believed you meant it.”
“I thought you’d at least spare me this.” Tears slowly slipped down my cheeks.
“But what you did was even worse than that.”
Landon’s face stiffened.
His lips moved, but no words came out.
Megan stormed forward, her face twisted in panic and indignation.
“Lauren, you’re being unbelievably selfish! Do you even realize what you’ve done? You actually-”
I cut her off, curling my lips into a slow, sarcastic smile.
“What I’ve done is none of your business.”
“You should be more worried about what you deliver in two months.”
Megan’s face went pale. She stepped back instinctively, clutching her stomach, eyes widening in alarm.
“What are you talking about? I, I-”
I didn’t bother watching her meltdown. My gaze swept over the others in the room, finally landing on the two people who should’ve protected me the
most.
Of course, they showed up.
My mother stormed to the bedside, voice sharp with anger.
“Lauren! Do you still consider us your parents? This is serious–and you didn’t even think to tell us?!”
My father’s face darkened. Holding back his anger, he said, “No matter what, the child is innocent! You’ve gone too far.”
I stared coldly at them, speaking each word deliberately.
“You two are the biggest hypocrites I’ve ever known. When you made me give up my Alpha mate, did you ask what I wanted? When you forced me to have this child for Megan, did you ask if I agreed?”
“And now you come asking if I know what I’m doing?” I let out a soft, bitter laugh, ice glinting in my eyes. “Sorry, I’m just doing what you always did- making the choices that never should’ve been yours to make.”
“You-!” My mother was left speechless, pale with fury.
Just then, Landon suddenly pulled out a document, voice cold and steady. “Lauren, are you really going to do this? Take it this far?”
I glanced at it—it was the bond–breaking deal I had Ashley send out.
I raised an eyebrow, my tone indifferent. “Want me to make it
any
clearer?”
He stared at me hard, emotions tangled and suppressed beneath the surface, like he was wrestling with himself.
After a few seconds, he whispered, “You’ll regret this.”
I smiled faintly. “Regret? The only thing I regret … is believing you were any
different.”
My mother finally snapped. She pointed at me, yelling, “You’ve disgraced us, Lauren! Over a petty grudge, you’re tearing this family apart?!”
My father’s face stayed cold as, voice like steel. “So be it. From this day forward, you are no longer our daughter!”
With that, he grabbed my mother’s arm and strode out without looking back.
The room fell silent instantly. The mask was off.
I leaned against the hospital bed, fingers curling tightly, eyes fixed on the ceiling. But there was no pain–only an unprecedented sense of relief.

Why had I always been their daughter–yet never enough to love, only enough to use?
Why, no matter how hard I tried, how much I gave, did they always ignore me and hold me down?
Forget it. It didn’t matter anymore.
From now on, I am no longer the one they chose to sacrifice.
