Chapter 6
During my recovery, my body healed quickly, and I successfully severed the mate bond with Landon.
When it snapped, I didn’t feel grief–only a strange stillness.
Like waking from a nightmare you can’t believe you ever called love.
Then, I left the pack and made my way to Wolfcastle, applying to become a warrior.
Not a Luna. Not a daughter. Just me. A fighter.
I stepped into the building and suddenly noticed a middle–aged she–wolf not far away, staring at me.
She was dressed elegantly, radiating grace, but when she saw me, she visibly froze, her gaze complicated yet tender, as if seeing a ghost from the past.
After a brief hesitation, she approached, her voice warm with a hint of hope. “Hey, I’m Brittany. Do you have a moment?”
At first, I hesitated, unsure what she wanted. But for some reason, there was a subtle, unexpected pull-
a feeling like I’d met her long before.
In the end, I nodded. “Alright.”
More than a month later, news arrived–Megan had given birth.
Her pack threw a grand party, announcing it like the moon goddess herself had blessed them.
Everywhere, there were boasts, banners, and endless photos–a parade of showmanship drenched in artificial joy.
When I heard the news, a cold smile tugged at my lips.
No child had come from my womb, yet somehow–she had a baby.
Where it came from, who it belonged to, didn’t matter. What mattered was she’d fooled them all.
Originally, I planned to wait–let her bask in her false glory a little longer.
But coincidentally, Brittany was invited to the same banquet.
She looked at the invitation, then turned to ask me, “Would you like to come with me?”
My eyes darkened, and I smiled. “Well then, let’s go see what it’s all about.
The banquet hall was magnificent–glasses clinking, laughter echoing. Megan cradled the child, smiling like she was the moon herself.
My parents stood beside her, beaming with pride, hanging on her every word.
Landon was there too, tense, watching every detail.
Watching this scene, I let out a quiet, scornful laugh, eyes full of sarcasm.
When they saw me, their expressions shifted instantly.
“What are you doing here?” someone barked.
I strolled in slowly, eyes casually sweeping over them. “What? Can’t a sister drop by to congratulate her darling little sibling?”
Megan’s face twisted. Her lips twitched, forcing out a smile. “Lauren, I didn’t expect you here. How… thoughtful.”
I sneered, my tone dismissive. “Thoughtful? Please.”
“You’re not my sister. You’re an empty dress with a mouth.”
Her expression changed, about to retort, but I pressed on. “And yet, here you are–center stage, flaunting like nothing’s wrong. Shouldn’t you be terrified?”
Some pack members nearby sensed the tension and tried to smooth things over. “Let’s not air family matters at a celebration.”
But Megan was riled up. She couldn’t hold back anymore, letting out a sharp, cold laugh. “Jealous. That’s all you are,
“Everyone always liked me more, Mom and Dad chose me, your mate picked me, even Landon–he’s still mine?”
“You lost your child. No one wants you now. So you show up here, desperate to ruin my moment?” Chapter 6

Her words sparked a low buzz–guests whispering, eyes wide with morbid curiosity.
I scoffed, then strode straight toward her mate–my Alpha mate–and his Alpha parents. The family I should’ve had.
“If you say so, I’d be remiss not to say something.”
I had only taken a few steps when my arm was suddenly grabbed hard.
My mother’s voice was sharp and furious. “Lauren, you’re a jinx! You lost your own child, and now you want to hurt your sister?”
“She finally had a baby, life’s going well for her, and you come to ruin it?”
