Clay regretted his actions.
He used to think he could accept life without me, but the truth was completely different.
Every second since learning of my departure, he was thinking about me, hoping I’d appear in front of him, wishing to go back to how things used to be.
But I married Ethan.
Just thinking about that made it hard for me to breathe..
As he was about to call Ethan again, Riley called first.
“Clay, I’m pregnant. I’m carrying your child. Are you happy?”

Clay froze, unable to process her words.
Happy? He should be.
But why was his first reaction not happiness, but panic?
Could he get me back with a child?
He’d hurt me so much; with Riley pregnant with his child, would I ever forgive him?
He didn’t dare think about it. The more he thought, the more anxious he became.
Clay stammered, “Riley, do you really want this child?”
Hearing his unexpected words, Riley’s smile froze..
“Yes, Clay. I want a child, especially one that’s ours.”
“Didn’t we discuss this before? If you can’t accept it, or if you’re worried Maya will be just abort it and find someone else to have a child with!”

Her voice, unusually sharp, betrayed her irritation.
Clay panicked and hurriedly explained, “No, I can accept the child. It’s just…I didn’t expect him to
come so soon.”
“It’s okay. I’ll understand every decision you make. If Maya doesn’t want it, then just forget about the baby. I don’t want him to affect your relationship with Maya. Even though Maya is married now, you still have a chance.”
Riley deliberately retreated to gain ground.
Sure enough, after hearing her words, Clay immediately made a decision.

“Riley, let’s have the baby. I’ll be a good father. I’ll explain to Maya. Even if I divorce and return! her, it won’t affect my child. She loves me, and she’ll accept our child.”
Satisfied with this answer, Riley smiled softly and said, “Okay.”
It didn’t matter; as long as Clay was willing to raise the child, that was enough. With the Sterling family’s backing, she was determined to get the Ford family’s inheritance!
After hanging up, Clay regretted his decision.
He didn’t want Riley to abort the baby, but he didn’t know how to convince me to return, to accept the child.
After struggling for a long time, he decided to continue targeting Ethan’s company.
Though their companies were in different cities, they both had branches in multiple locations, even overlapping businesses.
Especially in cooperation with the government, they were major competitors.
In the past, Clay hadn’t understood why Ethan targeted the Sterling family.
Five years ago, there was little overlap in their businesses.
But after Ethan took control, he expanded into similar fields, determined to destroy the Sterlings. Ethan was incredibly capable, constantly thwarting them.
Back then, Clay thought Ethan was just targeting the Sterling family out of old grudges.
Until now, after Ethan married me, he finally realized that the reason Ethan was targeting the Sterling family was because of me!
So, Clay used the same tactics against Ethan. He needed to force Ethan to meet him face to face!
