Two weeks later, Ethan and I celebrated our engagement.
Distinguished guests from various circles gathered at the event. Ethan held my hand the entire time, introducing me to everyone.
“I saw this dress in Italy once. There’s only one in the world, and you already bought it for your fiancée, Mr. Harrington.”
“Sorry I beat you to it,” Ethan replied.
He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, joking that he’d be more considerate next time.
“Sophia!”
A loud voice shattered the pleasant atmosphere of the engagement party.
I turned to face the man who had suddenly appeared, feeling confused. Though he called my name, I didn’t recognize him.
Seeing his aggressive approach, I instinctively tightened my grip on Ethan’s arm.
“Sophia, you’re still my wife! How can you get engaged to someone else?”
“Adrian! I’m warning you not to cross the line!”
Ethan stepped in front of me, completely blocking my view of the man.
I peered through the gap to look at him. His handsome features had twisted with anger, making him much less attractive.

Seeing him so enraged actually frightened me.
“I’m crossing the line? Ethan, she’s my wife!”
Ethan snorted coldly and pointed to the display screen at the venue.
“Adrian, open your damn eyes and look. Her name isn’t Sophia. She’s Sophie.”
Only then did Adrian notice that all the signs at the party didn’t have Sophia’s name on them.

When Ethan produced my identification, Adrian realized Ethan had altered my identity.
“Sophia!”
Adrian reached out to grab me, but I instinctively backed away.
“I don’t know you.”
Adrian’s outstretched hand froze midair. Disbelief and hurt flooded his eyes.
“I’m Adrian. We’ve been together for over ten years. How can you say you don’t remember me?
“Did Ethan do something to you?”
I shook my head again, insisting I didn’t know him. My fear of him grew stronger.
“I get it. You’re still mad at me, aren’t you?
“I kept your mother’s ashes safe. Look.”
Adrian pulled out a small box from his pocket. Inside was a small amount

of sticky powder that looked rather dirty at first glance.
Terrified, I hid in Ethan’s arms. Adrian caused a scene at the party and even got into a fight.
Ethan had security escort him out.
Until the very moment he was thrown out, he kept shouting Sophia’s
name.
That name differed from mine by just one letter.
I didn’t ask about it. Something told me I shouldn’t.
The engagement party ended in the evening. Ethan had to see off some friends and asked me to wait inside.
As I sat there bored, a shadow fell across me.
I looked up and saw Adrian again.
He held up his hands, his face filled with anxiety and nervousness.
“Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you.
“I just wanted to tell you, my name is Adrian.”
