Chapter 8
Lydia smiled sweetly and curtsied to the Empress: “That day when I gave birth to a son, I was too afraid of my lord’s temper to tell His Majesty and Your Majesty.“]
“If this child could be raised under Your Majesty’s care, I’d gladly die for it.“]
The Emperor and Empress were childless – this had always been Aunt Empress’s deepest wound.[]
Other than that, Uncle Emperor was a decent man who never took other wives or mistresses.[]
Lydia was basically handing the Empress a gift on a silver platter, just trying to buy us mother and daughter a way out.]
The Empress graciously took the child. Whatever scumbag had fathered him, the boy now had a golden ticket to the top.
Dad got dragged off to the water dungeon, scheduled for execution.[]
Before they took him away, he had just one request – he wanted me to pour him wine one last time.]]
I went. He was beaten to a pulp – he’d only ever been the one dishing out torture, but now the tables had turned.[]
“Luna…” Dad looked at me with exhausted eyes: “My biggest regret is not getting you and your mother out of here.“[]
He’d kept me around, never realizing he was keeping his worst enemy close.]
I poured wine and brought it to his lips. He looked at me and actually smiled: “You’re looking more and more like Miller’s daughter.“]

I smiled back coolly: “My stepmother was good to me. Makes sense I’d turn out like her.‘
“So you’d sell out your own father to get revenge for her?” Dad suddenly went berserk.
I just stared at him with ice–cold eyes until he crumpled like a deflated balloon, mumbling:
“Do you even know why I killed your stepmother?“||
Turns out even without me around, Dad had already started getting paranoid about my stepmother.
Aunt had strongly pushed for their marriage, and Dad watched this flawless noble lady, desperate to figure her
real agenda.
He first built up affection with my stepmother, then took her to the dungeon.]
How could a sheltered aristocrat not be terrified seeing all that blood and gore?
But Dad got excited, thinking he’d finally ripped off her mask.
Yet beyond that, my stepmother never stepped out of line. In fact, she ran the household likel

Even the spy Dad planted by her side couldn’t find a single fault, until one day she caught my stepmother secretly slipping me food.[] Now that crossed a line.]
Dad had me beaten on purpose just to bait my stepmother, so he could kill her with a clear conscience.
“Every woman who gets close to me except my Lily has an agenda!” Dad was lost in his memories.
“But you’re the one who murdered Mother with your own hands.” I said icily:]

Chapter 8
“Power always came first with you. Now that you’re down and out, suddenly you remember how wonderful Mother was.“]]
Dad exploded: “What the hell do you know? I was the one who brought the army, but my brother–in–law got the crown! Once you’ve had a taste of real power, how can you stand playing second fiddle?“]
“Beautifully put.” Lydia sauntered in casually. The moment Dad saw her, his face twisted with rage he looked ready to rip her to
–
shreds.
“Power really is addictive, isn’t it? Here’s something you don’t know yet – I traded my son for a royal decree.“]
“Luna and I get to finish you off ourselves.”
