George gritted his teeth, gathering his courage before finally looking up to retort.
“Brother, the one who should be standing here today is me. Anna is my fiancée. Can you please give her back to me?”
Liam knelt down to massage my sore ankles, but his words were cold and distant.
“Anna is my wife now. George, if you can’t learn some manners, you can get out of the Parker family.”
George clenched his fists, swallowing hard. In front of his brother, he deflated like a popped balloon.
He looked at me stubbornly, then whispered, unwilling to give up, “But I never agreed to the breakup.”
Liam’s patience ran out. He stood up and walked over to George. Though they were brothers, Liam was a good half a head taller. They looked at each other, but George’s gaze instinctively darted away.
“Anna said you broke up, so you broke up. From now on, you will address her respectfully as your sister–in–law. Otherwise, you can forget about that little dividend you get every year.”
With that, he turned, took my hand, and led me away.
