Half an hour later, the “family of three” rushed into the room.
There was no joy in George and Maya’s eyes, only terror.
Maya teetered forward on her high heels.
“Liam… you’re finally better. You have no idea how scared I was.”
She moved as if to throw herself into his arms.
George’s face was grim. Liam, however, simply frowned and held up a hand, stopping her.
“That’s not necessary.”
Maya froze, then quickly explained, “Ever since you got sick, Yoyo has been crying for her daddy every day. George couldn’t stand to see her so sad, so he took her out to cheer her up.”
Liam’s expression was unreadable.
George didn’t dare say much to his brother, so he turned to me instead.
“Anna, I told you to go home and turn on the heat for Yoyo. What are you doing here with my brother?”
Before I could answer, Liam’s cold gaze fell on him.
“If no one was here, was I supposed to just die and let the hospital deal with my body?”
George went pale, unable to form a complete sentence.
Chapter 2

Ever since our wedding date was set, George and I had been living together. Now that I no longer wanted to marry him, I needed to pack my things. It didn’t take long–just three or four suitcases for my clothes. I sold all the little trinkets he had given me on a sec-
ond–hand app for cheap.
The housekeeper had just left when George came home.
He noticed the emptiness of the apartment immediately.
“The wedding is in a month, and you’re pulling this stunt again? What’s the meaning of this, moving all your things out? You want to break up? Call off the wedding?”
“My brother’s awake, so we don’t have to raise Yoyo anymore. What else are you dissatisfied with?”
I gave him a meaningful look.
“Your brother is awake, and you seem to be the one who’s dissatisfied.”
“George, you’re more audacious than I thought.”
I walked out, but he quickly caught up, grabbing my arm. He seemed to have been provoked by my words.
“I’ve given you one chance. If you walk out that door again, I will never marry you in this lifetime!”
1 couldn’t help but laugh. I slowly pried his fingers from my arm.
“Then we won’t get married.”
“Let’s break up.”
George froze, then laughed mockingly. He seemed so certain that I would simp for him forever.
“Fine. But don’t come.crying to me tomorrow, begging me to take you back.”
