Chapter 16

The second Adrian got the call, his face went dead white and he bolted to the hospital with his assistant.

He was practically jogging down that hospital corridor, his mind spinning with all of Ivy’s bizarre shit lately–those cold stares, her nasty attitude, the way she’d been treating him and Elena like dirt.

Two hospital rooms right next to each other, and Adrian just stood there in the middle, not sure which door to go through first.

While he was standing there confused, a nurse walked up with this big envelope.

“Mr..Kane, this stuff fell out when Miss Pierce got hurt. Can you look at it?”

Adrian took the envelope and opened it up without thinking much. Then his eyes went huge.

There were camera pictures and money records that clearly showed someone who looked exactly like Ivy leaving his house the night before the wedding.

But what really messed with his head was proof that three years ago, the Wells family made some secret deal with “Ivy Wells“-and the papers literally said “fake bride money.”

“Fake…?” His voice was rough, his fingers tightening until the folder got crushed in his hand.

All the weird stuff suddenly made sense.

She wasn’t Ivy at all!

Adrian’s head snapped up, fury burning in his eyes, and he was about to storm into that hospital room to get some damn answers.

But the second he took a step, he saw Elena standing at the end of the hallway, staring at the folder in his hands with her face all pale.

“Adrian…” she hurried over, her voice doing this fake shaky thing. “I knew something was off about her! She’s not Ivy at all–she’s a total fraud!”

Adrian stared at her coldly, catching that flash of panic in her eyes.

He pushed down his doubts and asked in this low voice: “Why were you looking into this stuff?”

Elena froze, then forced this weak smile: “I… I was just worried you were getting played…”

Adrian didn’t bother with her anymore and went straight to Ivy’s room, only to find it completely empty.

A nurse told him the Wells family had picked up “Mrs. Kane” not too long ago.

“The Wells family?” Adrian’s expression darkened and he immediately ordered his assistant: “Check if these documents are real, and get the car ready. I’m going to the Wells house!”

Seeing this, Elena rushed forward to block him, her voice all panicked: “Adrian, if she ran away, that proves she’s guilty! She was pretending to be Ivy, probably just wanted the Kane money. Why bother chasing after her?”

Adrian stopped and turned to look at her: “I just want to know where the real Ivy is.”

Elena went stiff, barely able to keep the smile on her face: “Adrian, you… you’re not falling for her, are you?”

Adrian didn’t answer, just gave her this long look, then walked away.

Elena stood there frozen, gripping her clothes so tight her knuckles went white. She felt both regret and panic–she thought exposing “Ivy” would get her Adrian all to herself, but she never expected things to go this way.
