Chapter 7
His eyes scanned over her, like he was checking if she was hurt, and then he looked relieved. “What happened these past three days?”
Riley’s mouth twitched, blood seeping from her cracked lips. “Nothing much.”

She got straight to the point. “That wedding you promised me–when’s it happening?”
Elena’s head snapped up immediately. “What wedding?”
Adrian went quiet for a second. “She and I are gonna have a ceremony.”
Seeing Elena’s eyes instantly fill with tears, he quickly jumped in to explain: “It’s just for show, Elena. You’re the only one I actually care about.”
Elena forced a smile. “I understand… I’m not upset. You’re only doing this because you had to save me.
Then she suddenly turned to Riley with this sweet voice. “Riley, how about I help you pick out a wedding dress?”
Over the next few days, Elena was basically glued to Riley’s hip during all the wedding dress fittings.
At the bridal boutique, Riley stood in front of the mirror while this gorgeous white gown showed off her tiny waist. Elena was right there breathing down her neck, personally checking out every single dress and finding something to complain about.
“Ugh, this neckline’s way too slutty.” Elena yanked at Riley’s collar like she owned the place. “Get something that actually covers you up.‘
“And this waist thing does nothing for you.” She grabbed another dress off the rack. “Seriously? Mrs. Kane’s gonna wear this cheap–looking crap?”
Riley just stood there taking it all, like some lifeless mannequin.
But then when they finally picked the last dress and were alone in the fitting room, Elena’s sweet act completely disappeared.
“Oh, so you haven’t been all chill about this–you’ve been playing some twisted game of hard–to–get.”
She suddenly clamped down on Riley’s wrist, her nails cutting right into the skin. “Here’s a newsflash–don’t think this little show’s gonna get you
Adrian. He belongs to me, got it?!”
Riley didn’t even blink, just calmly pulled her hand back.
There was no hard–to–get game, no scheme to steal Adrian.
She wanted out of here more than anyone–couldn’t wait for this whole shitshow to be over.
But what she didn’t expect was that Elena was dead set on thinking she was gunning for Adrian, so she kept causing drama.
The night before the wedding, Adrian burst through her door like a maniac.

“You seriously locked Elena in that fitting room?!” His face was twisted with rage. “What the hell is wrong with you?! She’s claustrophobic!”
Riley closed her eyes, completely drained. “I didn’t.”
“Bullshit!” Adrian grabbed her and hauled her up. “Obviously I didn’t teach you a good enough lesson last time!”
He totally ignored her trying to get away and had his guys throw her ass right into that gross, moldy basement.
In the complete darkness, Riley curled up in the corner.
Around midnight, she heard this weird rustling noise.

Chapter 7
Next thing she knew, a bag of live rats came flying in!
“Jesus Christ!”
She screamed and jumped up, beating the hell out of that metal door. Her nails cracked and started bleeding, but nobody gave a shit….
The next morning, Adrian opened the door looking pissed as usual. “Locked you up for one night and you bawled like a baby the whole time?”
After getting tortured all night long, Riley looked like death warmed over. “Elena dumped a bunch of rats in here…”
Adrian actually laughed at that. “Yeah right. Elena wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
He hit the lights. “Okay, so where are all these rats?”
Riley just stared.
The basement was completely clean. Not a single trace of anything.
Elena… had wiped out every bit of proof.
Riley started to say something, then just shut her mouth.
Adrian’s voice could’ve frozen hell over. “Wedding’s in three days. I’m spending that time with Elena–only showing up when I absolutely have to.”
He gave her this look that could kill. “Don’t pull any more shit, or I’m calling the whole thing off!”
