Chapter 4
Everyone who witnessed the scene looked absolutely horrified.
The binoculars in Blake’s hands slipped to the ground.
He lunged toward the cliff’s edge without hesitation, trying to get to me, but was held back by his friends. In a burst of rage, he punched one of them square in the face.
Blake collapsed to the ground like a madman, ignoring the pain from his injuries. He scrambled toward the burning car, crawling and stumbling in desperation.
But by the time he got there, the place was already crowded with onlookers.
The pack doctor’s voice rang out, heavy with regret.
“She was severely injured in the crash, and then caught in the fuel tank explosion. We missed the best time to save her.”
“Even if she had survived, with burns like this, she would have lived in constant pain.”
“We don’t even know who her family is. Notify them to come claim the body.”
Hearing that, Blake shoved through the crowd like a man possessed and rushed forward.
“She’s not dead! Help her! She’s still alive–please!”
His words caught in his throat the moment he laid eyes on my corpse.
The violent fire and collision had cleaved my body in two at the waist. Pieces of what looked like flesh were scattered across the ground.
Blake stood frozen.
It wasn’t until he saw my remains with his own eyes that he finally realized—the girl who had always orbited around him, who never fought back no matter how cruelly he treated her–was truly gone.
On my charred hand, the ring he had once given me was still visible.
It was a cheap matching ring he’d casually bought on the day we became a couple. The edges were worn and blackened. Faded color was staining my
skin.
Years had passed since then, and Blake had long tossed it aside like worthless trash.
But I had worn it every single day. Even during the past four years, though he had given me countless gifts, I had never taken it off.
Because he once said he wanted that ring to be the symbol of our mate bond.
I had believed him foolishly, and promised that I wouldn’t go against that vow until we held our mating ceremony.
But now, the girl who once believed in love had lost her life–because of his vengeance.
Memories of me began flooding Blake’s mind, crashing in like waves.
“Aaaah!”
Blake let out a tortured scream, collapsing to his knees, grabbing at the blackened ashes scattered in the wind with both hands.
He clutched at the broken pieces with wild strength, pulling them into his arms, not caring that his clothes were getting stained.
With every frantic motion, the rough ground left gashes across his skin.
His hands were soaked in blood. Several of his fingernails had been torn clean off.
Yet he continued to howl, slamming his head against the ground over and over again.
“Jenna, stop lying to me! How could you die so easily? Please–I’m begging you–come back!”
People around him began whispering and pointing, shocked by Blake’s madness.
Lindsey arrived with her friends and froze at the scene. She hurried over and tried to pull him up.
“Alpha, she’s gone. You can’t keep hurting yourself like this.”
Blake was no longer rational. He grabbed the nearest person by the collar and punched them.

“That’s not what you said before!”
Blood splattered. Silence fell over the crowd.
They all knew the original plan.
I was only supposed to crash due to brake failure and suffer a broken leg.
Their people stationed nearby would then drag me out of the car and take me back to the pack house–where Blake would reveal the truth to my face and mock my feelings with cruel satisfaction.
But I had already uncovered their plan in advance.
I had secretly asked my mother to ship over the latest self–driving car. I filled it with gasoline and placed a life–sized mannequin inside.
“When you’re ready, climb out. I’ll wait for you at the edge of the pack territory,” my mother’s voice came through my earpiece, immediately soothing my nerves.
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
I moved to exit the deformed car, but my lower body was trapped.
I struggled with all my strength, but the car didn’t budge an inch.
“Come on!” I gritted my teeth. The fire had started creeping up the front of the vehicle. Panic set in.
“Jenna, what are you doing? Get out of there now!” my mother urged.
“Wait–I’m stuck,” I said, pushing at the twisted frame with all my might, but it was useless.
This was all because I had transferred half of my werewolf powers to Blake, leaving me too weak to move the steel.
“Damn it,” I muttered, my surgical wound tearing open again.
I regretted it. My wolf had been right all along.
“Regretting it now, aren’t you?” her voice came again. “Try one last time. Just once more.”
“Mia? You’re back?”
“Shut up. Save the reunion for later. I’m not dying in this trap,” Mia snapped. “To me, you’re the only one that matters.”
“Our mate? He means nothing.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t have lost you for the sake of a mate.”
“Less talking. More pushing.”
With Mia’s help, I finally forced open the twisted metal.
The moment I escaped the burning car, it exploded behind me.
As the flames erupted, their people who had been stationed nearby fled in fear of getting hurt.
That was why the mannequin ended up so disfigured–burned beyond recognition.
Once upon a time, I had given Blake everything. And all I got in return was nearly being crippled for life.
This time, he could taste the consequences himself.
Blake continued to beat the person who had come up with the plan, until the werewolf police arrived and forcibly separated them. They were all taken
back to the pack.
In the great hall of the pack house, the bloodied, bruised pack members knelt and begged for mercy.
“Alpha, I swear I know I was wrong!”
“I didn’t think the car would actually explode–we didn’t even have a fire extinguisher ready. By the time we got water, it was already too late…”
“Please, for Lindsey’s sake, don’t hold this against me. Don’t exile me from the pack!”
But no matter how much he begged, Blake only responded with a cold, bitter smile.
“This is the retribution you deserve. I’ll report everything you’ve done to the werewolf polices.”
