Leonardo denied, “How would Halston know? Don’t listen to his nonsense.”
“You know better than I if he’s talking nonsense,” Raylee said, letting go of him. “I know there’s nothing going on between you and Halston. Both of you are just keeping secrets from me. But when it comes to you and Angela, I refuse to believe for a second that there’s nothing going on between you two. I am torn inside. On one hand, I am jealous, and on the other, I feel like it’s a good thing you have someone else since I’m going to die soon. But could I possibly ask you,” Raylee sobbed, “to only be together once I’m gone? I just want to spend the remaining time I have left with you.”
“You silly girl,” Leonardo said, his heart aching as he gently caressed her face.
He led her to the couch to sit. “Ray–Ray, I can sense Angela’s feelings for me, but at this moment, I can’t tell her to leave. She’s extremely familiar with your medical condition, worked for the Epean professor for two years, and has the best understanding of the experimental data. Raylee rested her head against Leonardo’s chest, expressing her sorrow by saying, “So, you knew all along that Angela has feelings for you, but you have no choice but to keep her close for my sake. “Ray–Ray, don’t feel guilty,” Leonardo said, gently running his fingers through her hair. “I’ve told you before, I’ll do everything within my power to save you,”
The atmosphere had become heavy.
Observing the teary–eyed Raylee, the masked man was overwhelmed with heartache.
“If you truly feel guilty, then accept your treatment. Your survival is the greatest repayment for my efforts. I’ll take a shower first, then I’ll hold you to sleep tonight.”
Raylee sniffled, her nose tingling with a sour sensation, and gave a slight nod.
She then returned to her room.
Not long after Leonardo entered the bathroom, his phone began to ring.
It was a call from Angela.
After a moment of hesitation, Raylee finally pressed the answer button.
She remained silent. From the other end came the anxious voice of Angela, Leo, didn’t you ever talk to Ms. Somers about our past? I’m sorry that our past has become a burden to you. Raylee’s face was ashen, her heart feeling as though it was weighed down by a massive boulder, causing her such discomfort that she could barely breathe.
