Chapter 5
Sophia was crying all sweet and pitiful in Dominic’s arms.
But she could totally tell his mind was somewhere else today.
She curled up against him, giving him those bedroom eyes, her voice all sugary: “Dom, are you tired? How come you haven’t kissed me today?“]
Her skinny fingers traced little circles on his chest.[]
But looking at her face just made Dominic feel annoyed as hell.]
He used to love it when she acted all helpless like this.[]
But now he couldn’t stop thinking about that woman in the hospital bed–covered in blood, pale as death, but with this look in her eyes like she’d given up on everything.
He shook those thoughts away and kissed her: “How could I not want to kiss you? You’re my everything.”
Sophia looked smug for a second, but th
then bit her lip like she was nervous.
“Dominic, when do you think she’ll divorce you? And when can we finally be together?“]
Dominic’s hands turned into fists without him realizing it.]
All he could hear was what Lauren had said.]
*Dominic, the debt’s paid. Let’s get divorced.”
“Like hell!”
He jumped up suddenly.
Sophia wasn’t ready for it and fell right on the floor.]
Then he snapped back to reality and helped her up real quick.[]
Sophia was freaking out inside. She grabbed onto Dominie and asked in that baby voice:[]
“What are you talking about, Dom? Like hell what?”
Dominic came back to himself, looking dark and moody.
“Nothing“]
He let go of her and straightened his shirt, acting all cold.
Sophia watched his face carefully, sensing something was off.
What was he so pissed about? Was it her? Or… was it Lauren?
“But you look really upset.”
Dominic froze.
He looked up at the mirror.
The guy staring back who was usually so cool and collected – looked absolutely furious and bitter.
Because Lauren wanted a divorce?
No way.
As long as he didn’t sign those papers, she’d never be able to leave him. Not in this lifetime.]
“Even if she dies, she needs my permission first.”
Sophia had no clue what the hell Dominic was talking about.]
When she tried to grab his hand, he just shook her off.]
Then walked out without looking back.]
He was
gonna tell Lauren exactly what he just said, face to face.]
But when he got to Lauren’s room, there was a crowd of people outside, everyone freaking out trying to save someone:]
“Movel Move! Patient’s in critical condition!”
It was chaps outside her room – doctors and nurses rushing in with emergency equipment, like the world was ending.
That’s when Dominic lost his mind.
He charged in, screaming: “Lauren-!“]]
“Get out of the way! She’s my wife! Let me see what’s wrong!“]
But the second he burst in, he froze.]
The person on the bed..]
Wasn’t Lauren
Dominie felt like someone had hit him with a sledgehammer. His legs went weak, his voice shaking: []
“Where…..
…where is she…”
The doctor looked at him confused, but before he could answer, Dominic grabbed him by the collar and screamed:[]
“Where’s Lauren?! Where did she go? She had an allergic reaction! Couldn’t you guys save her?||
The doctor was sweating bullets, shaking his head: “We never saw Lauren… she’s not in the room.“]
The room went dead silent.]
Everyone just stared at each other, not knowing how to explain this mess.[]
Dominic stood there for a few seconds, then went completely crazy, tearing the room apart.
He ripped open closets, looked under the bed, pulled back every curtain.
But she wasn’t there.
She was really gone.
His heart felt like it had been ripped out. Dominic’s eyes were bloodshot, sweat dripping down his face, his lips white as paper.
He pulled out his phone with shaking hands, and dialed a number he’d never called before.[]
Just like he expected-]
Straight to voicemail
Right then, Dominic had a thought he’d never had before.
She…
didn’t want him anymore.
