Chapter 20
“Lorraine, you’ve got the LVMH meeting at 10 AM and Fashion Week at 3 PM. I’ve got all the materials prepped–anything else you need?“]]
Lorraine was about to answer her assistant when she suddenly stopped, frowning at the familiar figure standing by the reception desk.[]
Kieran stood there in a wrinkled suit, holding two coffee cups with dark circles that looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks. []
The moment he saw her, his dull eyes suddenly lit up.
“Lorraine.” He rushed forward, forcing a smile. “I remembered you like lattes with extra syrup.“[
Lorraine’s gaze lingered on the coffee for a second, her lips curving into a sarcastic smile: “I like that? Isn’t that Aurora’s order?”
Kieran’s hand froze in midair.[]
“What do you want?” Lorraine gestured for her assistant to leave but made no move to invite him in. “I’m in a hurry.“]]
“I… I just wanted to talk.” Kieran’s eyes were pleading. “Just ten minutes.“[]
“Talk about what?” Lorraine crossed her arms. “How you blew through the last of Harper Industries‘ money? Or maybe about your true love who skipped town with your cash?”
“Sorry, but I don’t give a shit about either topic.“]]
His throat worked as he suddenly grabbed her wrist: “I know I fucked up… Lorraine, I’m here to apologize. Can you give me one more chance?“]]
Lorraine jerked her hand away, laughing coldly: []
“Now you’re begging me? When I told you Aurora was bad news, what did you say?“]
She looked him up and down, mimicking his tone: “”‘Aurora’s innocent, she’d never do anything like that“?“]
Kieran’s already pale face went completely white: “I was being an total idiot, but I swear I never sleep with her.“]
“That doesn’t matter to me.” Lorraine turned to leave. “Move. I’m going to be late.”
“Wait!” Kieran blocked her path, his words rushing out: “We were so good together before–why do you only remember the bad stuff?“[]
“Don’t you remember? That time you had a fever, I stayed at the hospital all night with you… And your birthday, I cancelled meetings to take you to–“[] Lorraine suddenly laughed, a sound that made Kieran’s blood run cold.[]
“The night I had a fever, you only stayed at the hospital because your precious Aurora had a cold. You even stole my doctor go check on her instead because she mentioned her chest hurt.“]
“And that birthday trip to Paris? You only went because Aurora was there. I never even wanted to go to Paris–you bought the tickets and used my birthday as an excuse to see her!“]
Kieran’s lips trembled, panic filling his eyes: “I was… I was an asshole sometimes… but not everything I did for you was fake…“[]
“What else was there?” Lorraine looked down at him.“Giving me Aurora’s rejected jewelry? Or standing outside her building all Christmas night?“|[]
Kienan was speechless, desperately clutching at her sleeve: “But… but I really know I was wrong now…
I love
you…”
“Love?” Lorraine yanked away from him, stepping back. []
“Kieran, you only love yourself. The only reason you’re groveling now is because Harper Industries needs the Castillo connections to survive.“[]
“No!” Kieran frantically protested. “It’s not about the company–we loved each other, why are you being so fucking stubborn…“[]
Lorraine suddenly grabbed the coffee he’d set down and threw it right in his face.]
Brown liquid dripped down his chin onto his expensive suit as the receptionist gasped.]
“Are you awake now?” Lorraine’s voice was ice–cold. “Kieran, you look absolutely disgusting.”
Kieran sat on the floor, coffee dripping from his eyelashes.]
He watched her walk away without looking back, suddenly remembering a long time ago when he’d splashed cold water on her face.
Back then, she’d looked at him with red eyes but still smiled and said “it’s okay.”
Now she wouldn’t even waste a dirty look on him.[]
The assistant hurried to catch up with Lorraine: “Lora, should I call security?”
“No need.” Lorraine stepped into the elevator without looking back. “He’s just nobody important.”
