Chapter 18
The car navigation showed that it would take another twenty minutes to get to Elaine’s apartment
Darren slammed on the gas pedal, the neon lights outside the window trailing twisted ribbons in his vision.
The radio was playing financial news: “the Cressey Group’s stock price kept dropping, rumors said CEO Darren’s personal issues seriously affected his work.”
He suddenly turned off the radio.
The corner of the storage compartment revealed a slightly yellowed pink envelope.
It was Isabela who put in the “vehicle maintenance reminder last year.
She always remembered the maintenance dates of each car, even hand–writing notes like ‘This brake is a bit soft, need to pay special attention.”
I usually put some refreshing aromatherapy in the car.
My heart suddenly started burning sharply.
Darren pulled open the collar with one hand, as if it could ease the feeling of suffocation.
Darren stood at Elaine’s apartment door, his finger hovering above the doorbell, but suddenly hesitated
There was a heated argument inside the door, and the sound of glass breading was loud and piercing
“A bunch of losers! Can’t even handle a woman? Elaine’s voice was so sharp it was distorted. “I paid you to get things done, not to mess things up for me!!!
Darren frowned, and his body instinctively moved closer to the door crack.
A rough male voice impatiently retorted, Ms. Reilly, the money you gave us is only enough to scare her. If we really want to take care of her, that’s a different price.”
Darren’s blood froze instantly.
“Don’t bargain with me!” Elaine screamed hysterically, “Last time in the neighboring city, we should have just run her over! But you guys didn’t even find bec!!!
Darren’s fingers clenched suddenly, knuckles burning white.
Car accident in the neighboring city?
He suddenly remembered that the private detective had mentioned that Isabela was almost hit by an unlicensed ven when she left the bus station in the neighboring city, but luckily she was pulled away by a passerby.
At that time, he just thought it was an accident
The conversation inside the door was still going on
“That doctor is too nosy,” another voice said ominously, “He seems to have some connections, we just found out where that woman lives and the police
are already onto us.”
“Rhett?!” Elaine’s sneer was like a snake hissing, “Just a poor doctor, dare to compete with me? I’ll show him sooner or later
“Bang!”
Darren kicked the door open
The scene in the living room made his pupils shrink suddenly.
Elaine was wearing a silk robe, holding half a glass of red wine, and three tattooed men were surrounding her.
There were photos scattered on the coffee table – all of them were candid shots of Isabela!
There were shots of her outside the new company, there were shots of her walking with Rhett, and there were even long shots of her apartment balcony…
The top one was marked with a fierce cross in red pen.
“Darren, what the heck?!” Elaine’s wine glass smashed on the carpet, red wine splattering or blood.
Darren’s eyes scanned those photos, finally landing on her computer screI…..

k to the waiter and whispered something in his ear.
In the scene, Elaine personally handed the drugged drink to
“It was you who designed it,” Darren’s voice was terrifyingly low.
Elaine’s face turned pale, and soddenly she grabbed the computer and was about to smash it
The burly man closest to her grabbed her wrist and said, “Ms. Reilly, the final payment hasn’t been made yet.”
“Get lost!” she struggled madly, her bathrobe strap slipping off, revealing the needle marks on her collarbone.
Darren suddenly laughed
He leisurely took out his phone and pulled up a set of photos.
Elaine’s drug record in Aswye, her scandalous photos with a married man on a yacht, and even her fake diploma proof
“You said…” he bent down and picked up a photo of Isabela, gently stroking her blurry face with his fingertips, “What if these showed up at your father’s mayoral campaign rally?”
Elaine’s face rumed pale in an instant, trembling lips, as if she had been pinched at a vital point, completely unable to speak.
